I think you're very right that love is an act of faith, but faith generally doesn't promote understanding. If we understood everything, we wouldn't need faith since faith is for the things unseen and unproven by logic. You're asking how you can understand the Divine; humans often don't understand humans and from my limited knowledge of various mythologies, it seems that often deities often don't understand each other. You're right, how could a human ever understand a deity? It seems impossible.
I believe it's a matter of nature. It is human nature to have difficulty understanding the Divine. By the time we've evolved to the point of being able to comprehend such things, we're no longer what we now know to be "human".
I'm still trying to really comprehend what I was told last weekend and I'm sure that has something to do with this, but I'm not quite sure how to incorporate it into my logic. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong as long as you tell me why :)
In my experience, faith is a stopping point to understanding. When we accept something on faith, we stop looking for answers, reasons, and understanding. We no longer seek these because we've given ourselves a fill-in for them, simple acceptance. On most subjects, I'm not willing to do this. On love
( ... )
i have been told that i need to have more faith - to rely less on logic, even "emotional logic", and to accept things that i can't explain. as you so eloquently put it, Love is an act of faith - and Love is something i'm pretty good at. you've given me a valuable clue here, my friend - thank you!
