feeding the soul

Thanks to everyone who replied to the last couple of entries I posted (...). Lately I've been trying to read more. I unofficially picked up the 25bookchallenge, started 09 June, 2007. Though from the looks of it, I'm already failing? But whatevs; the four books that I've read thus far are already four more than the number of books I finished last year for my personal reading. If the goal is to just "read more" and I think of the challenge in that sense, I suppose I'm already a winner. Or that at least I can't exactly fail the challenge in entirety.

Before I go through the HP series, though, I have to read Kabul Beauty School (Deborah Rodriguez) for class and write a paper on it. :/ What's worse is that my college "mentor" acted as if I already knew of the assignment when she emailed me. ("So by now you should already have finished the book in question...") Bzzt, WRONG. *stabs her* I've decided not to count it toward the challenge because it's not personal reading, and the point was to get myself to read more books that aren't just required for school.

In any case, I'm not so uptight about completing the HP series ASAP. So far I've managed to avoid spoilers for this long (?!), and it's not as if I'm pressured to read at anything other than my own pace since I didn't check out the books from the library. I downloaded the e-books. Sometimes I forget how convenient torrents are.

If anyone has any links toward online libraries and you're willing to share, please drop a comment? At college, I can't be having torrents activated on my computer. So far, the online libraries I know of are Bibliomania, Literature.org, and World Wide School.

Reviews are hella concise because if they exceed one or two sentences, you and I both know I won't know when to shut up, if ever.

1. The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown)
This was actually pretty boring. Especially since I figured out the Teacher's identity and the combination to the second cryptex long before Robert Langdon ever did.

2. Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden)
Easily readable, but too long. Also, the pacing could use some work.

3. In the Absence of Sun: A Korean American Woman's Promise to Reunite Three Lost Generations of Her Family (Helie Lee)
I don't care how good Still Life With Rice was, Helie Lee should never be allowed to write first person ever again. Ever again.

4. Only the Ring Finger Knows: The Ring Finger Falls Silent (Satoru Kannagi)
...XD;

4 / 25 (16.00%)
P.S., Yes, I'm counting number four. It's a badly written novel. Technically speaking. In the Greek sense of the word. XO
