And considering they normally get 2-4 inches of rain A YEAR, not per squall! lol

I will be interested to see pictures of post-rain growth in the desert.

The scariest thing about this video is...

they have Starbucks in Oman. :P

Seriously, though, at least the damage doesn't appear to be too serious, mainly street flooding and the occasional downed tree. Had Gonu come ashore during its Cat 4 or 5 stage, the story would have been different.

hahahahah!!!

I like my mocha cappuccino with less sea foam and street sludge.

Yeah, Muscat was never directly within the core of the most intense eyewall for long, if at all. Gonu veered northeast fast just before getting much closer to the capital. I have read that communities further east, along the coast and a bit inland, did not fare as well, however.

I don't know if many people saw it but I added a comment the day before the storm hit saying I'd stumbled across this website and was looking for info. (I live in muscat) I got a useful reply from cieldumort - thanks for that by the way ( ... )

I'm relieved to know that you came through alright, and glad to hear that you found this site useful. Having just seen some more of the video to come out of Muscat, I have to say it looks much, much worse than the early footage of people still driving around, frolicking in the waves by the beach, etc. Fortunately, the eye itself never passed right on over Muscat, and Gonu had weakened tremendously as it began entering the Gulf of Oman.

Many wishes for you, your friends & loved ones. Speedy recoveries!
