Haha, I love how JB told him that he might get an erection. I was actually wondering about this, I mean actors are only humans after all and once their instincts kick in, an erection can certainly happen. That goes for every sex scene. I couldn't do it XD Thanks for sharing this, it tunes in well with the show I watched yesterday where John tries to find out what made him gay (The Making of Me, an older show)
He should have quit while he was ahead. The interview was great, he admitted the tweet was stupid...and then he had to get into the "looking to be offended" thing. Yeah. Your publicist needs to buy you a ball gag, honey.
Yeah no kidding. For the whole rest of the interview I was thinking "Alright!", and was actually agreeing with him re: his distaste for "boysex"! If he'd have replied to that twitter question with "Yeah, I totally put my foot in my mouth there. I made a video to address it." it would have come across a LOT better for him.
"looking to be offended" immediately gets my hackles up
I think he comes across like a 20-something dudebro, and a little douchey about "people with chips on their shoulder". Dillon, people face homophobia and discrimination on a regular basis, it's a little more than a chip on a person's shoulder, it's hurtful. I don't think he means it to be, but it's like hipster post-racial stuff. "Oh, we're so past that discrimination stuff I can totally joke about it, now." Yeah, not really, because people get a lot of shit IRL.
However, I'm very likely going to write some filthy slash porn with Brad in it and not Dillon Casey, so... *mentally separates actor from character* Done.
But yeah, he totally strikes me as your typical dudebro. Maybe you think what you said wasn't offensive, but seeing as you are the self-proclaimed king of straight men who are straight straight straight? Maybe what should or shouldn't be offensive to queer people isn't really your business to determine.
Man, we can get out the bingo card unless he mellows a little bit.
At the same time, he's getting a taste of what a lot of female actors get. "Oh by the way, you have to show your tits!" So, that's kind of interesting watching someone grok what it's like to feel objectified in that way when they've been formerly in a position of privilege. Not that it's good, but it's a learning experience.
To be honest. i don't really think he comes across as a douche.
i can understand how he can feel awkward doing a gay sex scene. I'm gay and i'd feel so awkward touching a few boobies and having sex with a woman. I just don't like it, it's not what i do. So i get that it felt awkward and he also says he was ok with it later cause John was a pro and he's ok with homosexuality and stuff.
idk. personally i like him.
Can't wait to see him on Nikita (Which you should all check out! That show is a-mahh-zinng.)
It wouldn't bother me if he felt awkward, especially since apparently he thought "intimate scenes with a man" meant kissing (lol silly little man), it's the fact that he took that awkwardness and said some offensive things in a public forum, and rather than just saying "you're right, that was rude and hurt people unnecessarily", he pulled the ole "looking to be offended" chestnut. It really doesn't cost anything to say you're sorry, ime.
He's not wrong though. Fans WILL get offended over small things. Recently fans were offended over JB saying that "TW is still TW" after all the deaths. Really, its perception. If JB was really offended by it, he would have said so. And you know he would have. I'm not saying he's right, but I'm not saying he's some gigantic homophobe either -- unlike Isaiah Washington who went around calling TR Knight a 'faggot' everywhere he could.
Yeah but there is a world of difference about getting offended by opinions over a television show and getting offended over homophobia. You may not recognize it as homophobia, or want to call it homophobia, but some of us do, and we count too.
Isaiah Washington was a fuckhead, no argument from me there, although I'm sure he had people saying "it was just a joke, look he's going to rehab for gay hating, he's obviously sorry so stop being so hard on him" too. You don't have to think the two men are equal in their shittiness, but people have a right to not tolerate or condone either of their behaviour.

I just appreciate JB's unapologetic frankness. He seems like a cool dude.

Right? Because as a member of a minority with less rights than everyone else? YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LOOK TOO FUCKING HARD.
