To be honest. i don't really think he comes across as a douche.

i can understand how he can feel awkward doing a gay sex scene. I'm gay and i'd feel so awkward touching a few boobies and having sex with a woman. I just don't like it, it's not what i do. So i get that it felt awkward and he also says he was ok with it later cause John was a pro and he's ok with homosexuality and stuff.

idk. personally i like him.

Can't wait to see him on Nikita (Which you should all check out! That show is a-mahh-zinng.)

It wouldn't bother me if he felt awkward, especially since apparently he thought "intimate scenes with a man" meant kissing (lol silly little man), it's the fact that he took that awkwardness and said some offensive things in a public forum, and rather than just saying "you're right, that was rude and hurt people unnecessarily", he pulled the ole "looking to be offended" chestnut. It really doesn't cost anything to say you're sorry, ime.

He's not wrong though. Fans WILL get offended over small things. Recently fans were offended over JB saying that "TW is still TW" after all the deaths. Really, its perception. If JB was really offended by it, he would have said so. And you know he would have. I'm not saying he's right, but I'm not saying he's some gigantic homophobe either -- unlike Isaiah Washington who went around calling TR Knight a 'faggot' everywhere he could.

Yeah but there is a world of difference about getting offended by opinions over a television show and getting offended over homophobia. You may not recognize it as homophobia, or want to call it homophobia, but some of us do, and we count too.

Isaiah Washington was a fuckhead, no argument from me there, although I'm sure he had people saying "it was just a joke, look he's going to rehab for gay hating, he's obviously sorry so stop being so hard on him" too. You don't have to think the two men are equal in their shittiness, but people have a right to not tolerate or condone either of their behaviour.

I think it's more the idea that you're saying that he's being offensive by him saying "looking to be offended" because he is not wrong. The majority of this fandom proves him right every. single. day. On Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, etc. by bashing the actors, writers, producers and other fans because of their support of this show. And until people stop getting in arms over small things like that, he's going to continue to be right there.

How is calling him a homophobe NOT putting him in the same box as Isaiah?

Again, not saying he's right. What he said WAS douchey but he was not nearly as bad as he could have been. He has tried to make an apology for it and that's good enough for me. I'm not going to sit here and judge him that harshly.

I'm a card carrying bisexual and I just rolled my eyes at him -- as I tend to do many people who make douchebag gay remarks. My dad included.

Homophobia isn't all-or-nothing though. Sometimes it's killing or beating a person because they're gay, and sometimes it's stupid closed-minded jokes that are often used to hurt and shame people. Sure one isn't as bad as the other if you want to rank them, but they're all homophobia.

Nobody is legally obliging you to find his statements offensive, queer people are hardly a hive mind, but it's not fair to say "what he said wasn't offensive, and if you found it offensive, you're just looking to be offended", and especially not okay for him to say as a straight man ( ... )
