Gosh, again no posting over a weekend. I don't often do a whole lot other than maybe get out to the grocery store or hang out with mom so there's not a lot to write about. I did finally get my curtains up this weekend and they look nice though mom pointed out that, in the photo i posted on FB, one side seems fuller than the other. Not sure if it's ( Read more... )

What you also don't want is an American attempt at remaking a successful British series

Actually, there's a reasonable track record on making a success of this, at least in sitcoms - Three's Company from Man About the House, All In The Family from Till Death Do Us Part, Sandford and Son from Steptoe and Son. Most recently, of course, there's The Office. I don't know of it working in drama, though.

I am amused by Matthew Graham's comment on the US Life on Mars - "It beggars belief". This is from a man, let's not forget, who co-created Bonekickers!

Well most of those successful series happened over 30 years ago, nearly 40 in some cases. The Office was successful with Steve Carrell but they're usually the exception that proves the rule.

We watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 of Fringe tonight and enjoyed seeing hints of what is to come. It's sad this coming series (5) is the last one, but they will be able to complete all the story lines in a non-rushed way. Glad you are enjoying it!

I find a lot of the American series last too long and just limp away at the end rather than quit while they're still good. It gets dragged out far too far so even if Fringe is ending this year, at least it won't go out with a wimper (i hope)

Totally with you on the "it's not a real 50th anniversary" thing with DW. The BBC shamefully turned their collective backs - from the Director General down - on what was then, and is now, one of their most popular series and a guaranteed world-wide money spinner. For FIFTEEN years. No matter how loudly they trumpet the reboot (which in my opinion gets increasingly worse from series to series), they can't patch over that open sore.

Interested to learn from @girfan that Fringe has, or is about to, complete 5 series (I don't do much Internet research on TV shows - even ones I like!). We have the boxed set of the first 3 series and had assumed it finished at that. Will be on the lookout for Series #4 and #5 from now on!!

I haven't watched much tv since becoming a mom. In fact we cancelled our cable (we had digital cable, movie channels, full tier) about 1.5 years ago and only have Netflix and anything we download as far as movies go. There's just no time anymore. There are times I miss getting lost in a show for a half hour and other times I'm really glad I don't have it in my life anymore. The only thing I do watch is Republic of Doyle which I watch streaming from the CBC site and I have been slowly working my way through How I Met Your Mother on Netflix. I also watched the entire L Word seasons last summer. Between twitter, facebook, pinterest, photography and kids I don't get much time in front of the actual TV but I'm okay with that.

I'm looking forward to seeing season 5 when it starts here in a couple of weeks ;) Have read the books, but they're so far apart now it doesn't really help.
