“Get the fuck out of here! You can’t eat that!”

I opened my eyes slowly, looking around the room to figure out why Jack was yelling.

“Take another bite and I’m gonna eat you!” he yelled again and I furrowed my eyebrows. “Stop!”

I heard a noise and Josie started crying, letting out a loud yell.

“You made your daughter cry!” May yelled at him.

“You did! You were eating her Daddy’s french toast!”

“You were yelling at her Auntie!”

“She loves her Daddy more than her Auntie!” he yelled back, making Josie scream louder.

I groaned, sitting up and rubbing my eyes. I fixed my boxers when I stood up from the floor, walking into the kitchen.

“Hi, baby girl. Deedee being loud?” I cooed, picking Josie up from her bouncer.

“No! Babe, you weren’t supposed to wake up yet!” Jack said, pouting.

“I thought you were beating my child,” I said, cuddling her and hearing her coo.

“May, you ruin everything!” Jack yelled at her, glaring.

“I’m just paying you back for when you ruined my life by being born!” May yelled back at him.

“Stop it. He could walk outside and get hit by a car. Then you would regret saying that for the rest of your life. Trust me,” I told her, playing with Josie’s toes.

Her face softened and she looked over at Jack, who was staring at the floor blankly.

“Now kiss and make up,” I told them and Jack made a face.

“No!”

“Yes!”

“No!”

“It’s my birthday and I want you to kiss your sister! Now make up!”

Jack glared at me, walking over and wrapping his arms around May. She hugged him back and I smiled, looking down at Josie.

“See, Auntie and Deedee love each other. They’re just loud,” I told her and she cooed, smiling up at me. “You were just born into a loud family, babe. I’m sure you’ll be loud too.”

“Ba!” she yelled and I smiled.

“Exactly,” I said, kissing her forehead.

“Here, baby,” I heard Jack say and I looked up to see him setting a plate full of french toast down in front of me. “Happy birthday.”

“Thank you, again,” I said, winking and giving him a kiss.

“You’re welcome. There’s more where that came from,” he said, smirking cheekily.

“Good,” I answered, adjusting Josie.

“Come here, boo. Sit in your seat while Daddy eats his breakfast,” Jack said, picking the baby up. She grunted, squirming and giving him a dirty look. “Oh shut it.”

I chuckled, watching him set her bouncer in the middle of the table, in front of me.

“Hi, mama,” I said, grabbing the syrup.

“It’s Daddy’s birthday,” Jack told her, sitting down. “So you gotta be a good girl like you were on my birthday.”

“She was in your belly on your birthday,” I said, laughing.

“She still behaved,” he answered and I rolled my eyes.

“I guess she did,” I said, tickling her feet. “So what did you get me for my birthday?”

Jack rolled his eyes, cutting his french toast.

“Nothing huge, because your birthday and Christmas have to be less than two weeks apart,” he said and I pouted.

“You don’t love me,” I teased and he shook his head.

“I love you too much. That’s my problem,” he said and I pouted.

“Fine,” I said. “At least Josie loves me.”

“Yeah she does,” he answered, looking down at the baby who was smiling up at me.

“When do I get my presents?” I asked, hearing Jack chuckle.

“After you finish your breakfast. So shut up and eat,” he said and I giggled.

I picked Josie up after we were both finished, going into the living room and sitting on the floor with her, laying her on our makeshift bd.

My phone began ringing and I searched through the blankets to find it. I found it when it was on its third ring, seeing it was my mom. I hit answer, putting the phone up to my ear.

“Hello,” I said, making faces at Josie and seeing her crack a smile.

“Happy birthday, Alex,” she said and I could hear the smile in her voice.

“Thanks, mom,” I said, wiggling Josie’s toes and making her squeal.

“What are you doing, birthday boy?” she asked.

“Sitting with my daughter and waiting for my boyfriend to bring me my birthday presents,” I answered and Josie let out a loud coo. “Oh, Josie said hi.”

She chuckled, and I smiled. “Do you think your boyfriend would mind sharing you? I have cake to bring my lovely son.”

“I don’t think Jack would have a problem with it. Josie, however, has issues with sharing,” I said.

“Oh, well I don’t think she’ll have a problem with me. I’m your mama,” she said and I raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t know. She’s pretty feisty,” I told her. “She’ll probably yell at you for trying to steal her Daddy.”

“Then I’ll have to tell her he’s my baby,” she said and I smiled.

“Jack tried that. She’s stubborn.”

“Well, I’ll just have to tickle her to death when I come over, then,” she said and I laughed. “That will show her.”

“It will.”

“Okay. Well I’ll see you in a little bit, dear. I love you,” she said.

“I love you too, mom,” I answered, hanging my phone up.

Jack came in with a few presents and I smiled, watching him sit down across from me.

“My mom is bringing a cake over,” I told him and he smiled.

“I think my mom is making one right now too,” he said.

“Woo! I get two cakes!” I said and he laughed.

“Right. That’s all you need, fatty,” h said, poking me in the stomach.

“Shh. Now give me my presents,” I said, reaching my hands out.

“Impatient,” Jack said, rolling his eyes.

“No. I just like presents,” I told him, seeing him hand me the first one.

“That’s from Josie,” he said and I nodded, tearing away the wrapping paper.

“You’re much better at wrapping presents than Deedee is, Josie,” I said, hearing Jack chuckle.

Inside was a travel mug with one of Josie’s newborn pictures on it. I smiled, setting it down and picking her up.

“Thank you, baby!” I said, grinning and kissing her face.

“She thought you would like it,” Jack told me and I nodded.

“I love it!” I said, cuddling her. “Now I get to have my baby with me wherever I go!”

“Okay, mine aren’t as cute, but oh well,” Jack said, handing me a couple more presents.

He got me a couple of t-shirts, CDs and movies that I had been wanting.

“Thanks, babe,” I said, grinning and kissing him.

“I know it’s not a lot,” he said and I shook my head.

“I love it all,” I told him.

“Good. And I thought maybe I could take you out to dinner and a movie later,” he said and I nodded.

“That would be perfect, babe,” I told him, kissing him again.

“Ba!” Josie called out and we looked down at her.

“What? No one’s kissing you so you’re jealous?” Jack asked, picking her up. I scrunched up my nose at her and she smiled, kicking her feet.

“Then I guess we should kiss a baby!” I said, and Jack brought her forward. We kissed all over her face and she squealed. She managed to grab a hold of a fistful of both of our hair, making us cringe.

“Ow, okay! Let go of Daddy,” I said, trying to gently pry her hands from my hair.

“Ow! Josie! You hurting Deedee! Let go of me!” Jack exclaimed, trying to do the same.

Once we freed ourselves from her grip Jack laid her back down, rubbing his head.

“Mean girl,” Jack said and Josie cooed. “Whatever. Your cute noises aren’t fooling me.

I laughed, snuggling up to him and closing my eyes.

“What movie are we gonna see?” I asked.

“I have no idea. I don’t even know what’s playing,” he told me and I laughed.

“Well what are we getting to eat?” I asked.

“Whatever you want, birthday boy,” he told me, kissing my forehead.

“I want... hm,” I paused, thinking, “a steak.”

“Yeah?” Jack asked and I nodded. “We’ll go to Outback then.”

“Sounds good,” I said, looking down at Josie. “And you’ll be staying with Meme.”

She made a grumpy face, then grunted.

“She’s pooping,” Jack said, and she kept a very serious face. “You can change her.”

“No way!” I said, looking at him and shaking my head. “It’s my birthday! I’m not changing poopy diapers!”

“Damnit,” Jack said, sighing. “Hurry up and poop then, kid. Your farts are smelly.”

Josie grunted and I laughed, playing with Jack’s fingers.

“I gotta pee,” I said and he shoved me gently.

“Go pee. I’m not changing your pants too,” he said and I chuckled, kissing him.

“Fine. Bitch,” I said, standing up to walk to the bathroom.

I found my mom had arrived when I came back from the bathroom and I smiled.

“Hi, mom,” I said, hugging her.

“Hello, love,” she answered. “I gave Jack your cake.”

“Don’t eat it all, fatty,” I called out, watching Jack towards the kitchen. He flipped me off and I smirked.

“He better not eat it all. I worked hard on that cake,” she said and I chuckled. “Hello, baby girl.”

She picked Josie up, sitting down on the couch.

“What are you doing for your birthday?” Mom asked, holding Josie.

“Jack and I are going to dinner and the movies,” I told her.

“Need a babysitter?” she asked.

“If you want. We were just going to leave her with Joyce,” I said, shrugging.

“I want to take her,” she said and I nodded, smiling.

“That sounds great.”
