Preparation of the caps!
I can't be precise on this one because I don't remember what I did to the Sherlock caps to prepare it, I'm fairly sure I've used a layer of curves, used the "AUTO" button and then lowered the opacity, so, honestly, I don't know how I get there! Just play with it a bit, I can assure that I haven't use any tool. Just the curves.ù
As usual, I've opened my 100*100 black canvas and pasted Sherlock in it. I've applied a mask because I knew I would need it, so just put it there and move on.
Bring the Watson cap and paste it in the canvas, over the Sherlock layer, apply a mask and set the layer on screen, some part of the coat will cover Sherlock so you'll need to mask those part away.
My masks:
Now basically I copied all the layers and pasted them into a new layer, that's actually my base (I leave the others alone because you'll never know what will come and you might need to come back!). Once I've my pretty base I need to give it some light and that's how I do it: new layer, paint some white lines with a soft round brush and use the gaussian blur (4) leaving the layer on normal. Duplicae your "base" layer bring it on top and set it on softlight (100%)
Apply a curve layer with NO POINT on screen and leave it at 43% fill.
Since I wanted this icon to have a lots of bulbs of light, I've painted some other in the left corner of the icon and on the right side, this is what it looks like (the middle image, is just to show you how the light looks like, there's no black layer, just a transparent one with the white brushes):
Too light! Duplicate your base layer and take it on top, set it on softlight, duplicate it again, leave it on softlight.
Yes, I started from darkness, to go back to darkness, what can I say? I function like this! XD Anyway, now, copy ALL the layers (ctrl+shift+c) and let's move on!
I've took
this tinebrella's texture, I've desaturated it and set it on screen, rotating it 90° right.
Now the coloring; I've picked up this color #c37006 and set it to multiply at 100%, duplicate it and leave it on multiply, then duplicate it once again (yes!) and set it on screen at 43% fill.
weird? you can say that! You remember that I made you copy all the layers? Well, this is why! Paste the copy in a new layer and set it on screen at 100%
paste it once more and set it on softlight (100%)
Last layer: open a layer level and use these numbers:
red: 22 / 1,00 / 250
green: 22 / 1,00 / 250
blue: 22 / 1,00 / 250
Done!
