It does sound exciting! So are you saying that, once you sell the house, you'll go to the UK for a while rather than settling into a new one right away? It's one of my fantasies to live in a teeny studio apartment in a foreign city someday - out all the time, finally becoming bilingual (not bloody likely at this point), without ties but with new friends.

When we took our kids to Europe three years ago, it was (for me, anyway) very much in the spirit of knowing that we had the one chance and would not have that money to spend again; it was also in my mind that either Toby or I could get frail pretty quickly. Carpe diem. I'm not sorry we did it - especially since now we can't afford it.

I'm going to have to get well before I can go on tour. But at least I have a goal to help me move forward. I'm going to find a condo or similar to buy so that the bulk of my capital is safe and I have a place to hang my hat.

It's a good feeling to have a plan, isn't it? And you won't be worrying about the house once it's sold and you are in a low-maintenance place.

Good to see you Bunney! I can't do what your cousin did just yet as I'm not able to function without pain. I am hoping to get this sorted in the next year, then move on.

I really second www.duolingo.com - it's the best language learning platform I know and it's free. There's a smartphone app too.

Best of luck on your projects - travelling can be done on the cheaper side if you can be flexible.

France doesn't have enough nurses - maybe you could get work in the parts of France where plenty of English people live. I'm not sure about the legislation, would you like me to ask Brother 2, who is a nurse, if he knows whether uk or Canadian certifications are valid
