Bad news, good news

The tooth had two vertical cracks, so I had to get a crown. $$$ Temporary crown is on, permanent one to be placed in a few weeks. While waiting for the freezing to work, the dentist complimented me on my weight loss and asked how my health was. I told him my high BP and GERD were now cured. Glad to hear you and your tooth are on the road to recovery. GERD is one part of the restoration equation. While the acid does weaken and erode the enamel, loss of tooth structure may also come from grinding and clenching. And don't forget immunity -- those caries-causing bacteria can be a problem for one sibling but not another b/c of their ability to to neutralize them. You also have to consider the acid content of one's diet and quality of saliva. I've treated a number of families with multiple offspring, and there's always one kid who gets more than their share of cavities despite the same diet and hygiene habits of their siblings. It has a lot to do with genetics.

$$$ At least you know why it hurt and that this tooth ache has been sorted. I hope you're able to get some rest now.

thanks dear- it only hurt a little- I was more worried about the $$ issues- thankfully the dentist allows for long term payment

Ouch- but the nice thing about most dental work is it usually fixes the problem. =)
