George looked up from the letter he was writing, looking a bit like a deer caught in headlights. It was just Pete, and he wasn't writing anything dirty, but he had expected at least a knock. "Hey," he said immediately, before folding the paper away. "Paul's not in." His eyes narrowed slightly. "Wouldn't hurt to learn to knock, either."

Pete nodded his head mouthing an ‘oh’ to more himself than George.
George’s folded piece of paper however had piqued Pete’s interest. His head tilted slightly to the left watching the papers movement more than George’s attempt at putting it away. The expression out of sight, out of mind never worked much for Pete. “Yeah well I didn’t think” He defended abruptly. “Anyway it’s not like yer not decent. What cha doin’?” He moved closer to George.

George covered the paper with his other hand. "Just writing a letter to a mate back home." There wasn't anything particularly incriminating in the message, nothing he'd be embarrassed for Pete to read, but it was still personal. "And none of your business." His eyes narrowed. "And . . . you know. You ought to just leave Paul alone."

Pete raised his hands midway up in a mock surrender to George. He took a step back not meaning to invade George’s personal space; he just wanted to start a conversation and perhaps get on a good side with George.
“Oh c’mon George I mean no harm” Pete replied lowering his hands back to his sides. “And anyway, I can talk to Paul if I want to. Free country en all that”
