fanart themes

This is something I've been wondering about for a while and I'd really appreciate your feedback ♥

My work has changed over the years, I draw less angst and porn and much more fluff and schmoop. But fandoms are full of very, very different stuff, right? So what is it that makes you wanna click the link? What makes you take a minute and really look at ( Read more... )

You should've made ticky boxes! I can't pick just one. I like all of those options. Really, if you create something from your heart, then it shows, it doesn't matter what kind of piece it is. That's what you do, so I wouldn't worry about it, hon.

Haha! I was trying to be sneaky and see if porn would win this! XD

But seriously, thanks bb! I was wondering if there are themes people prefer, if it's similar to what we look for in fanfiction. It seems like that's not the case when it comes to fanart, though :)

I didn't vote because I am completely unable to choose. Well maybe "something else" would be the closest answer. I am not looking for a particular genre when it comes to art (sexy, gen, AU, etc..), I am much more looking for a particular style, something technically impressive in terms of colors, composition, concept. I like original works ( ... )

Aww, yeah I totally get it. And I wasn't asking for people to tell me what I'm supposed to draw. It's just that I've been through many fandoms and my style has changed a lot, I changed a lot and I hardly ever go beyond drawing happy, schmoopy, fluffy pictures. And I draw them because I need it, even though it hardly fits my current fandom. But this is what I want to do at the moment and I'm happy there are people who enjoy it anyway. My point is, when I share with fandom, it's personal and I draw whatever I want. But once in a while I'd like to see if there are requests or if there are trends/needs among people or if porn is really what wins them all XD And that's more or less what I was asking about ^^; Now I know I should have asked a different question or at least explain it more. But I'm very glad I'm getting all this feedback anyway! Thank you so much! ♥

Oh sorry, I didn't want to sound unpleasant. I know that you didn't started this pool so that people can tell you what you have to draw. ♥

As a fan artist myself I understand completely. When you are in a fandom for a long time, you want to change your style, the way you represent your characters but sometimes your "audience" doesn't approve. They are nostalgic of certain of your drawings, and they keep on asking you to draw stuff in the same style.

I am very tempted myself sometimes to ask people what they want to see even if I have like 36576878 ideas a day. Just like that to see.
I am torn between (sometimes) giving people what they want or to draw what I want to draw.

I actually receive requests but it's mainly wincest and/or commissions to draw illustrations arts for a fic.All the fan artists or even fic writers are in the same situation, I guess ^^;;

Good luck if you are taking part to the BB
Looking forward to seeing your next works whatever the style!! ;)

No, no! You didn't sound unpleasant at all! I didn't mean anything like that ^^ I was just trying to explain what I had in mind. It's just that sometimes I wonder about my fanart, if people really like it and why they like it... I don't have a lot of confidence in my own work but I try to stay true to myself and not let opinions influence me too much. And I have to admit that it's easier with more experience :)

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you I didn't take any part of your feedback the wrong way. I really do admire you and I appreciate your opinion and advice ♥

I feel a bit shallow after looking at some of the other answers. XD; I clicked fluff because that is really my favorite thing to look at (kissing and touching would be a pretty close second, though). No matter how beautifully done it is, I'm not really that interested in full-on porn or dark stuff anymore - it just really doesn't do much for me. Skill alone isn't enough to hold my interest, it has to have an idea I like that I can connect with.

No, bb! That's exactly what I was asking about! ♥ Thank you!!! And I'm like that too. I appreciate styles, techniques and talents but if you consider just one artist and you'd have a choice of what to see, I'm sure many of us have a preference. I'd choose something sweet too :) I used to like sexy/porny stuff much more a while ago. Now it really all looks the same after a while. Well, most of it. Especially if people use the same reference photos =/

You're welcome, I'm glad my answer was useful after all! XD ♥ That's a good way to describe it, only considering one artist. And it really kind of does, most of the time. X3; I guess after being in fandom for a long time that stuff looses its novelty.

I had to be difficult and choose 'something else' as well, haha. It's very, very dependent on fandom for me, and one doesn't really outweight the other. I'f I'm looking at SPN fanart, I generally prefer angst. But if I'm looking at RPF, or due South, I'd probably choose the PG or PG13 options. Sometimes I'm not even looking to be moved by the genre, but simply by the talent.

The last thing I would choose is porn. I seldom want to see that, unless it has a back story, or I know the artist - such as yourself - and trust that it will be quality.

Thank you so much for this! :D It's a great feedback! That poll doesn't seem to matter all that much anymore because people are giving me their answers and explanations in their comments, so the 'something else' option has become quite meaningful now ^^

I really appreciate what you said and I totally get it. And yeah, porn for the sake of porn is not really that fun anymore. And it's a very interesting point - I have to admit there are fandoms where I enjoy different stuff than with SPN, though its intensity never matches what I love the most ;)

When I'm looking at art its more about the style of the artist than what the picture is. I look more for how the picture is drawn and colored(or not colored and just shaded/inked, For me art is about the art itself and not what the artist has drawn, if that makes sense. Yes and still look for pictures of charaters or scenes that I'm interested in but if something catches my eye because the artwork is beautiful then I'll look and admire. Plenty of times I'll go on deviantart and just browse the daily deviants to see what got posted and find gems ( ... )

Thank you so much for a great feedback an yeah, it totally makes sense :) I happy to see so many people treating fanart like real art, appreciating the artist, skill and emotion. I love the fact that so many people discover artists through fandoms but follow them outside of it - it's so rewarding to see old friends still commenting on your work ♥

And I just wanted to say thank you for wonderful compliments and for watching my pictures so carefully ;)
