Why does Alex hate Eric?

The more I re-read the last few chapters of ADSoR, the more I realize Alex is actually really protective of Wes. At least in My Little Corner of the Fandom(TM). Which makes blatant his dislike of Eric even more confusing

Is this part of his massive insecurity issues? Because he hardly knows Eric and he knows Wes better, and Wes seems to like him all right, but he wonders if Eric secretly blames him for ruining Wes and Eric's relationship? (What Eric actually tells him is irrelevant.)

I love my father, I really do, but at the same time we can't live together. We are too much alike and it our love for each other turns to 'hate' and we end up snapping at each other non-stop.

Or maybe Alex is just seeing pieces of himself in Eric and doesn't want to make the same mistakes Eric has but that would be difficult for him to admit so he dislikes Eric.

Or perhaps Alex is not good at letting people in. He has a background of losing those he cares about. He's let Wes in. He's let his team in. That a lot of people to potentially be hurt by. Eric would be one more person and a parental figure at that one so that hurt he could feel would be that much larger. It's easier to 'dislike' him and push him away than let him in.
