-Points down, feeling broody and upset-

Defeated (General Power Rangers, K)
Fandom/: Post-Power Rangers Turbo
Characters/: Justin
Pairings/: Mentions of Rocky/Adam, Cassie/OC, Eric/Wes, Danny/Max, and hints of other couples.
Rating/: K
Disclaimer/: Don't own Power Rangers, because then this couples would be more cannon than they are.
Summary/: Watching the results of the '08 election, Justin thinks of the people it impacts around him.
Author's Notes/: I hate it when I'm right. Prop. 8 'won', which means that we've lost another step toward creating equal rights. They won't make the official statement until tomorrow, -Prays it changes- but this came to me after I got the news.

He stared at the final numbers, heart sinking. After a moment, his gaze finally dropped to the invitation in his hand. He stared at it for several minutes, at last letting out a long sigh.

Four votes. Four measly votes. Heck, he *knew* four people. Could he have talked them into it? Would talking to them about it changed their minds? Could he have done ... more? Done *something*?

He knew what his dad would say. He'd unfold his paper, settle into his seat, and make a comment about preserving marriage. His dad wasn't homophobic - at least not in the classic sense, but he was one of those types that believed gay people should have rights separate from everyone else.

In otherwords, homophobic.

He closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the wall. His other father, as he liked to think of him, either hadn't noticed there was supposed to be a difference, or hadn't cared. He'd never said anything in regards to Rocky and Adam as far as he knew.

Maybe it was a planetary thing? Maybe he should move to Eltar. If they didn't try to tell his friends they couldn't be happy, then it had to be better than Earth.

Was Eltar nice this time of year? He could find out. Storm Blaster would take him. He could meet up with the Robot Rangers, see how they were doing. That'd be cool.

Or the Astro Rangers. See how things were with them, if they didn't mind giving him a lift. But then he'd have to tell them why he was leaving Earth, and he wasn't sure he wanted to be the one to tell Cassie she couldn't marry her girlfriend on her own home planet. Although Cassie had always seemed happier once she went up into space, so maybe she wouldn't even care.

Ashley would. She hated seeing anyone who couldn't love freely. And she was sensitive about things like that, even though it didn't affect her directly.

T.J. would be upset, but not heartbroken like Ashley. Carlos might brood for awhile; anything that affected his friends tended to upset him more than he liked to admit. Zhane would probably be offended. Andros, he wasn't sure. He didn't know him as well as the others, because they'd never really clicked.

His other friends ... Well, Rocky and Adam would be devastated, obviously. Tommy would be angry at having something taken away from the people he knew. Kat had probably cried over the results. Maybe Kimberly, too. Tanya would be upset, moving between angry and hurt because she felt helpless. Jason would bounce somewhere between Tanya and Tommy's feelings, leaning more towards hurt than angry.

There were other Rangers everywhere that would be affected, although he didn't know them as well as he should. Carter, from Lightspeed Rescue. Eric and Wes - he'd met them at one of the reunions. Danny and Max from Wild Force -they were so obvious it was painful. Although Cole had probably cried over it once someone had finally explained to him what it meant. Most of the Ninja Storm Rangers. Tommy's kids, Ethan and ... was it Conner? Probably a few more he didn't remember well enough.

Greg, from school. Abby and Kristin, down the block. Half his co-workers, and a few other people he'd still kept in touch with from the dorms.

Sanctity of marriage. What a crock.

He brushed absently at his eyes with a hand, heading for the kitchen to get breakfast. His dad was at the table reading the paper, just as he'd expected. He went to the fridge, stared at the contents for a minutes as he tried to summon up an appetite. Eventually he just grabbed the orange juice and went to sit down.

"You okay, Justin?"

He looked up, blinking, as his dad stared at him. "Huh? Oh. Um ... not really." He shrugged at his dad's frown. "Not much anyone can do about it right now."

"You sure?" his dad persisted, looking concerned.

He shook his head. "Yeah. Don't worry about it."

There was a long silence as he drank his juice, and his dad alternated between reading the paper and eyeing him.

"What's that?"

"Hmm?" He looked up again.

"That." His dad nodded to his hand, and he glanced down at it instinctively.

The invitation to Rocky and Adam's wedding. He'd forgotten he was holding it.

"Just an invitation to a party," he said at last, crumpling it in his hand. "It's probably gonna be canceled, though."

He'd ask Storm Blaster after breakfast, he decided. Eltar sounded like a nice place to go. And if it wasn't, there were plenty of other planets out there. Maybe he'd go see the Galaxy Rangers on Mirinoi.

Because right now, anywhere had to be better than Earth.
