About 6 months to a year, and then it starts getting freezer burn. If no freezer burn, it's fine.

I am really, really going to want to read this one!

Meat can keep quite awhile... Just watch for freezer burn, which you can actually see. I've had meat that was even a year old! Can you believe it!? Got a turkey after Thanksgiving and cooked it a year later! Seriously! It was wonderful.

It was also a really good freezer.

It sounds like you have a good start on a plot with the girl trying to get from philly to oregon. Also, I'm psyched about reading your apocafic when ever you get it done! :D

i have a world and no plot. it'll never be done. >.<

and the only problem with the girl who wants to get back to oregon (she's from portland and was visiting friends in philly when everything went to hell in a handcart) is that she's not and was never intended to be a viewpoint character. *sigh*

hee. i don't have a plot, tho! well, i have parts of plot, but i'm not sure how to get the girl mechanic - who's the viewpoint character - from where she is in the beginning to where she is a month or two later. she needs some motivation. or something. everyone else has a reason for doing what they're doing or going where they're going.... shee.
