while thta book sounds unbelievably stupid, i have to say that the "having lots of hot sex for good causes" sounds good. would that everybody's life worked that way.

uh...nursing programs are only 2 years. i can't remember if you can go to them straight out of HS, though. they might require some CC first, but don't quote me.

it IS unbelievably stupid. and you would think the lots of hot sex was a good thing.... :D it might even be decently-written sex, but i couldn't get past how overwritten and melodramatic and self-consciously dark and broody the writing was. ewww.

I believe that you can become an LPN in 2years but that to be an RN you need a Bachelor's or the equivelent.

The requirements have changed a lot since my mom did nursing so I'm not positive on this. Again - call your public library. *g*

what's an lpn? i didn't read far enough into the book to learn what kind of nurse the heroine is, besides "er nurse who looks younger than twenty-one and oh yeah has some latent healing talent." *eyeroll* but i got the feeling she was a nurse-nurse, i guess an rn.

LPN - is a licensed practical nurse. RN - registered nurse. In the hospitals/nursing homes around here, only RN's are allowed to dispense meds. They have a higher level of learning.

I believe there are community college nursing programs--probably for LPNs--that are two years long.

at least i know st vincent's is a real place.

Yes, indeed. I was in the ER there long ago.

what's an lpn? how is that different from an rn?

An LPN is a Licensed Practical Nurse, while an RN is a Registered Nurse. I don't know the exact difference, but an RN can do lots of things that an LPN can't. My mom is an RN, and she doesn't have a BS degree, only an associates and nursing school, but I'm pretty sure that most of not all RNs these days get BS degrees.

what were you doing in the er of st vincent's??

Paying for being very young and very stupid. *g*

and i am NOT going to ask for more details than that.... (i'm guessing st vincent's gets a lot of folks in the er like that, tho, so at least you're not alone.... and clearly you survived youth and stupidity. :D )

so you can theoretically be a nurse without a bachelor's, but you'd still need at least an associate's degree before nursing school. now i'm wondering if mona lisa is supposed to be brilliant and/or very lucky, or if the author just didn't do very good research. hmph.

i talk too much! *hangs head* and babble about things that may or may not be interesting to other people. altho i got to talking to the random guy about spn like this:

i was babbling at farwing about something
random guy was checking out the new books
farwing asked if he needed any help and apologized for all the noise we (ie, i :> ) were making
he said "no, keep talking"
i said "do you watch supernatural?" because i was gearing up to rant about 2x02
he said "good show"
i went !!! and ^_^ and i was off

>.<

which could be fun for someone, i guess....

er. thank you. :> mostly i'm a dork in public.
