I feel ya. I think I need that icon that goes through all the common grammar mistakes. My current top annoyances are hoard/horde and rein/reign. If it's a lot of Mongol warriors or cattle or whatever, it's a horde. If it's a treasure trove, or the verb for stashing something away obsessively, it's hoard. Giving someone "free rein" comes from horseback riding, when you allow your mount to pick its own path. It has nothing to do with reigning over a kingdom.

I also feel ya about the haircut. I need one badly and my salon is also closed today.

i haven't seen those so much. horde/hoard would bug the crap out of me too, tho.

i wanna shave my head. >.< or at least get it cut really short.

yeeah, i've seen both horde/hoard and the worst yet, hoarde. now that one rankles. "free reign," while not correct, i'm seeing much more frequently and it doesn't bother me nearly so much because it still makes sense. i could see it becoming common usage fairly soon. it's almost a pun.

"hoarde" isn't even a word, which people would know if they SPELLCHECKED. that's just lazy.

Sometimes I confuse them when I'm writing too fast. Then I find the mistake and want to die a thousand deaths.

*cuddles up*

yes, but you know the difference. do you go back and fix it? (and it's a good thing you don't die a thousand deaths, because that would suck.)

To be honest I only figured it out in the last year or so... when someone finally pointed out that 'its' is different from the other possessives I was associating it with :).

that kinda sounds like a failure of the education system to me. but props to whoever pointed it out to you.

To a large extent, yes. I went through school at a point when they had cut back on the grammer teaching and what they did do wasn't enough to penetrate my oddly wired head *sigh*. So while I have a pretty good instinctive grasp of language...
I didn't finally sort out (and remember) the basic definitions of things like verb, noun etc. until I started learning German when I was 13 :P
