i had the worst craving for a cheese danish all day
so today was my mom's birthday and i may or may not have sent her card yesterday because i have no idea what day it is. >.< by which i mean i know when her birthday is but i had monday off and it threw off my entire week

the entitlement! i don't know if that's a them thing - if they're used to asking for all kinds of shit and getting it because they're just that highly placed/well respected in their field - or if it's common in their corner of the industry. in any case, no, we will not fly you home from an entirely different state. (new jersey doesn't even touch massachusetts. it's not like the speaker said hey, can you fly me home from rhode island. which we still wouldn't do but at least it wouldn't be as egregiously entitled.)

I've been thinking of you (along with my other Jewish friends) these past ten days. We have friends who couldn't get out until yesterday. The news is horrific on all sides, and thank God for Biden and Blinken. Can you imagine if the Previous Felon and one of his guys was trying to sort this out? Anyway, I also remembered one of your lovely short stories about the Jewish and Gentile Germans whose love survived the Shoah and World War II. They were older, living in the American Midwest, and lighting shabbos candles even though neither of them was much of a believer. But the lit candles helped dispel the darkness.
"They tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat!" is the basis for so many Jewish holidays. The October 7th victims will take their places alongside alongside Jews who have suffered and died since forever only because they were Jews. Hamas didn't kill the kibbutzniks because they were Israelis. The extermination of the Jewish people -- all of them, everywhere -- is embedded in Hamas DNA.
