second the non-job update

the department meeting i went to on friday started with a craft activity - one of the women (she's not a librarian or an archivist but i don't remember her title) brought colored paper and paper doilies and markers and colored pencils from home, and the department head got fancy scissors and glue sticks and more markers from the conservation lab, ( Read more... )

I think the peas in a pod is ridiculously adorable, but I guess it depends whether they have a fondness for flamingos?

they live in florida, so i thought the flamingos were appropriate. but the peas are just so cute.

I love the peas! the two look really cute together.

the whole lunch money debt thing is just so so so UGH AMERICA WTF and some of the stories of the shaming that happens (there was one making the rounds a few years back about on district that would prepare a full tray, check, and if the child's account doesn't have the money they throw it out right in front of them and hand them a cheese sandwich and milk instead)

the peas are so cute! altho it looks like so far there's one vote for flamingos and one vote for peas.

i've read some of those shaming stories, and i just want to go to those schools and smack the cafeteria workers. and if it's a directive that comes from the school board, i want to smack them too. shaming a kid in front of their classmates because their parents can't afford lunch won't do anything except hurt the kid, and deliberately doing that is cruel.
