Wow that California City article - I guess sometimes cities do spring up from no more than an idea, but that seemed doomed to fail to me.

Good on the staffers decision to donate the Pulitzer money, I think they're right, there's something kind of wrong feeling about profiting from that and now some good has come from it.

Glad to hear your new work is going well!! I love that the dress response was 'it has pockets!"

none of the giant planned cities i've read about are at all successful, altho i think this is the first one where very little was actually built. you can't entice people without industries to employ them, but you can't entice industry without people to employ. and who wants to live two hours inland in southern california? it's desert.

yeah, i thought the post-gazette did a good thing too. i bet it felt weird to keep the prize money.

i think that's the universal response when one woman compliments another woman's dress/skirt, if it has pockets. "that's so cute!" "thank you, it has pockets!" it's a very important detail.

i know, but money. also if i'd done it like twenty-five years ago i'd have longer to work in libraries. or be unemployed in my chosen field....
