first, a curling joke from gnomi, courtesy of siri:

how do you get bacon to stop curling in the pan?
take away its little brooms.

:DDD

curling season is not quite upon us, but registration is. i should sign up for a league before i forget.

i have now survived two! whole! weeks! at new job! O.O and there is A LOT to learn about the various departments and what they're all in charge of. i support three department heads, did i mention that? this means i went to three different department meetings this past week, met a lot of people, and realized i am never going to remember everyone's names. >.< there's some cool shit going on, tho. i also tried valiantly to untangle two of the department heads' calendars, by which i mean i made charts of all the times they were double-booked and tried to figure out what to do, what i could move/cancel/decline and what had to stay. next week i get to learn some stuff that isn't calendar maintenance. yay. :D

yesterday's department meeting was in another building, so i even got to be all official n' shit in a new place. (and i said to one of the girls at the meeting "you look just like a friend of mine, just a little shorter, so i apologize in advance if i call you by her name.") fun and excitement. :D at this meeting the department head (let's call her eh, because another department head is ef and my manager, the third department head, is k) said to introduce myself and share something fun about myself, so i shared that i curl.

one of the things i like about this job is that not only do i work with mostly women, all the people in positions of power are women. that and some of them are giant nerds. witness: the admin who wore a dinosaur dress one day, and when i commented on it (because come on, dinosaurs), she said a. it has pockets! and b. she thought she was going to be meeting with evolutionary biologists later, but it turns out she'd be meeting molecular biologists instead, and if she'd known that she would have worn the tardigrade dress.

one of the things i don't like is that it makes me wish i could go back to college/grad school and change my program to library science because seriously, cool shit.

other that that, uh, i've been working (slowly >.< ) on my reversebang even tho i don't know how it ends and i don't have a title. the plan is to finish the first draft by the end of september and bust my butt to get it beta'ed and edited before nano. fingers crossed.

i met my sister for dinner tonight and i'm still awake because i'm still kind of full. it was yummy, tho.

a california dream, by which i mean a giant (it would be the third-largest city in the state if anyone lived there) planned city like two hours from la that never actually came to be. i love places like this, the massive planned cities that no one ever came to live in - so much hubris, so much pointless construction - altho this place wasn't fully built up. streets were laid out, tho.

the pittsburgh post-gazette won a pulitzer this year for its coverage of the mass shooting at the tree of life synagogue last year, and then donated the prize money to the synagogue.

rare and amusing insults. in case you know a mumpsimus or pettifogger and want to call them that to their face.

and totally unrelated to all that, lj idol is back! for the writers out there. :D i don't know if i'm going to do it this year or not, but don't let my indecision sway you. it's a good time. lots of work, but fun.

real lj idol, language, architectural wtf, good deeds, curling, now i'm a library admin, fun with my sister
