(yesterday because the weather was awful i went over to my sister's house to watch avengers and the flamingo kid. the flamingo kid came out in 1984 when matt dillon was young and hot, and it's super cute

I've seen a lot of articles about the flour sack clothing/etc before, my cynical nature says that if similar things happened today the flour companies would do the opposite and make sure to do something so their sacks couldn't be used because it would 'destroy the brand' or some such rot.
That treasure hurt story was wild and depressing. I can't help but wonder if there really is a treasure or not. I hope that 'failure to report' law does get passed, although it's not going to help with the number of people who have died on their quest for the treasure.
i feel bad for the shark! altho it sounds like whoever took it had a reasonable idea how to keep it, and at least it was found pretty quickly.
if flour sack clothes were still a thing we'd probably be seeing expensive couture versions so wealthy people could look like they actually worked for a living. and yeah, mills would probably treat their sacks with something so you couldn't wash off the brand name, or they'd do something else to keep people from making clothes out of their sacks.
the guy who hid the treasure sounds like he could be a bit of a tale-teller, altho i don't think that means he didn't hide a treasure and leave clues to find it, but that it's not quite as much of a treasure as he wants people to think. like, the chest isn't full of gold and jewels. it's a neat story in a lot of ways, but you're not wrong about it being depressing.
aren't they cute? i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them made their way into kids' hands to play with because seriously, they're a great size for dollhouses! you might've been ahead of the curve. :D
