it's very cute and funny but there's kind of a lot going on. you should enjoy it, tho. it's highly entertaining.

hedges in all eras are adorable, but ancient ones are especially so. i figured everyone else needed to see it too. :D

That hegie is ADORABLE. I love how kids are kids and parents are parents no matter where and when, it reminds me of those 13th century birchbark drawings that were found in Russia by a little kid named Onfim or something and they looked exactly like any kid's doodlings you might find anywhere with the circle head on block body with random arms and legs drawn on as lines.

Ovens temps used to be measured by how long you could hold your hand in - a short count was hot = 400ish, a little longer was moderate= 350 and even longer was slow = 300 (add in gradations for more variety) because there wasn't actual temperatures on it. Some ovens had 'gas marks' (i.e. how much gas it was giving it so how hot it got) but others were kept going with coal or wood or whatever and you just had to estimate. Some stoves also had several doors and would have a different temp in each- one warming or proving (for dough), one for roasts and the like and another one or two for other cooking/baking.

i read about those drawings! they had school notes on them too, didn't they? but the drawings were the best. it's nice to know that kids are kids no matter when or where they live. the wheeled hedge might have been a votive offering at a temple, tho, not necessarily a kid's toy. but in either case, it's a hedge! which just means that people have been looking at them and going "aren't you cute!" for thousands of years.
