I find it kind of hilarious that the property was finally sold... just in time for everything to be destroyed. Kind of karmic. I hadn't heard of spite fences either, but it does make sense for an explanation of the 6 foot fence rule in so many places. Spite houses are amazing, it's probably wrong of me but I love that kind of petty revenge.

Ugh, spending time with people like your cousin's FIL makes me so tired. Sorry :(

there's a spite house in boston! i don't remember the story of why it was built, but it's like ten feet wide and there are actually people living in it. i love that kind of petty revenge too. it's such a permanent way to show how pissed you are at someone.

the other thing about my cousin's fil is that he has no concept of personal space and stands VERYCLOSE to you when he's talking to you. at least i had the really frustrating conversations with him at a table, so i didn't have to keep backing up to get some space.

The dancing traffic sign was awesome!

And I've only ever heard of spite fences, not spite houses. That Crocker monstrosity, though, was an epic exercise in hatefulness. Seems like something Trump would do, really. Self-entitled rich people are a pain!

my mom sent me the link! isn't it the most fun?

that really was a spiteful fence, wasn't it. on both sides! i mean, it wasn't just the guy who built the thing. (there's a spite house in boston but i don't remember the story of it, who was spiting who.)
