Thrillist often has the wonkiest lists imaginable. It does these "best brewery in every state" deals, and I am not much on my breweries or beer, but even I know that there's a METRIC FUCKTON of them in Northern California No That Is Not San Francisco. They seem to not realize that there is a state above SF. I also would not have prioritized the little idol. At least go with Indy's HAT.
Oh! I knew about Malta + same-sex marriage, but this is the first I learned of Malta + divorce! Thanks!
Bookbinders are magic. So are dogs.
I cannot WAIT for The Dark Tower. I'm making Ben read the books (for the first time o.O) before we go see it.
i think they stayed away from costume bits, which probably knocks out indy's whip as well. but i'm guessing that's why his hat didn't make the cut. or dorothy's ruby slippers, which are way more iconic than the hourglass.
i don't remember where i read that about malta only recently legalizing divorce, but that makes it that much more exciting that they legalized same-sex marriage.
dogs are the best. seriously.
i read the first dark tower book, liked it, read the second, didn't like it as much, didn't keep going. but i want to see the movie. it looks like the kind of thing i like, plus idris elba and matthew mcconaughey.
And it's not a direct movie of the books, either, so I think it's probably going to be fine. I just think the overarching story is one that Ben will really love. And it's one that I reference a bit.
I wish I could say "Oh, just skip to X part and it gets better!" like you can with Doctor Who or whatever, but it's all...twined. So I can't really. If you can find an abridged or fast-paced summing up somewhere, consider it. I personally find it to be pretty profound and impactful. But nope, it's not going to break anything if you don't. :D
Though, one thing does make me sad. I'm not gonna get to see Idris Elba tap dance.
Oh I loved Spiderman, such a fun, smileworthy movie with just enough depth to make you invest in the characters too. i wouldn't mind going again. It just goes to show you can make a US High school movie that isn't saccharine sweet or cringeworthy and it was fitting that they reference two previous ones that managed the same thing in different ways!
apparently they made a deliberate effort to reference john hughes movies, because spider-man is supposed to be a high school movie and a coming of age movie and he did those things really well. and his movies weren't saccharine or cringeworthy (and i think they hold up pretty well). and yes, it wasn't just fun - it had some depth. you actually gave a shit about everyone.

I wish I lived in or near a sanctuary city myself, but I live in Texas. :(
