my sister and i saw spider-man: homecoming tonight and it was super cute. tom holland is adorable.
ned was likewise adorable, and i loved that the object of peter's affection was a biracial girl and no one cared. the school seemed pretty realistically racially mixed, which i liked. i was expecting the department of damage control to be a lot more sinister - with a lot more screen time - than they were. i may or may not have just wanted more tyne daly. i thought there was too much tony and we didn't need any happy, altho i tend to think any movie that has tony in it (aside from post-credit scenes) and isn't an iron man or avengers movie has too much tony. if he shows up in thor: ragnarok you will hear me bitching from california.
anyway. peter's adorable, the nods to ferris bueller's day off and (i thought) the breakfast club were fun, i was tickled as hell that kenneth choi played principal morita (i had to explain why to my sister twice), i can't wait to see the rest of captain america's psas, i totally did not expect toombs to be liz's dad, and overall i really enjoyed the movie. michael keaton makes a good bad guy.
we saw a couple previews for movies that are already out (last wish and valerian), and i learned that my sister kind of wants to see the dark tower. i didn't think it was her kind of movie, but this means i won't have to see it by myself. :D
earlier today i picked up my comics (new kim and kim!) and wandered around
artbeat, where i got a couple of cute postcards from
mitra farmand and a "greetings from nashville" postcard from
albertine press (she was out of "greetings from boston") and a couple magnets from
fishcakes (she had pronoun pins! just she/her and he/him, because she sold out of they/them) and a paper house kit from
yeiou. there were a couple of bookbinders, and the thing i like about seeing professional bookbinders at art fairs is that i look at the books and think "i can do that!" but also "how the hell did they do that?" and figuring out how someone made a particular kind of binding or something is fun.
there were A LOT of people out and about, and A LOT of dogs. one of the things i love about where i live is the number of dogs. also this:
we're a sanctuary city.
so it was a good day.
this past week
very catholic malta legalized same-sex marriage, which is noteworthy because apparently they only legalized divorce in 2011. go malta.
the hundred greatest movie props, according to thrillist. i don't think i'd call the little gold idol in the beginning of raiders of the lost ark that iconic a prop, especially compared to, you know, THE ARK OF THE COVENANT, or even the box the ark's in (i mean, think about the very last scene, in the warehouse) (they have top men working on it :D ) - or indy's whip, come on - but hey, it's not my list.
