i'm going to read this entire series and enjoy the hell out of it

What I just finished reading:
lord john and the private matter, in which the case ended in a way i didn't see coming (mostly because i'm not sure how much set-up there was), but lord john continued to be charming and occasionally justifiably pissed off (in a very genteel upper-crust kind of way) and the story continued to have a subtle sense of ( Read more... )

Man, I am filled with so much schadenfreude over Melania Cheeto. Unseemly amounts of mean-spirited glee.

man, christ is judging them SO HARD. the pope was probably judging them in his head too. i think in this one case francis is allowed to be judgemental.

i should be able to muster some sympathy for someone who clearly does not want to be first lady and is probably in no way prepared to do it, but... i can't.

:D I'm still ridiculously pleased that you got into the series. Honestly, the mysteries sometimes were too convoluted, and it didn't help that I forgot some key names and who those people were by the time I got to the resolution. But who gives a shit. We're both reading for John Grey and all the supporting characters, I think, and for the historical nifty, but not for the mysteries.

That's a lot of random studies! I also don't know who most of these people are.

i watch procedural shows for the cases, but i'm reading the lord john books for, you know, lord john. the mysteries are kind of incidental. so far you're two for two in the pimping department.

so many unfamiliar names, so many cool rooms.

I needed something to read, so I went to the library and took out the Lord John books. I have resisted Diana Gabaldon forever, and I am not sure that these convinced me to wade into the Outlander books, but he is an interesting character AND the setting was superbly done. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

they don't make me want to read the outlander books either. for one thing, those are HUGE BOOKS. but i'm glad you like lord john! he's very likable as a character, and whatever else you want to say about diana gabaldon, she's definitely done her research.

Yeah, she has. But --- and I mean this, so do not dismiss it with modesty --- she is basically writing fan fic and hit it big time. Which is, you know, great and I am happy for an author to succeed (except Stephanie Meyer), but YOUR STUFF IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN GABALDON'S.

Okay, back to reading the next LORD JOHN.
