today was a much better day. i didn't screw anything up or forget to do anything important, and if i did, no one called me out on it. and my snow boots came! now that the snow is melting and it's not supposed to snow any more in the near future. oh well. at least i have them for the next storm. they're warm and fuzzy and calf-height and ( Read more... )

Wait until the lack of immigrants eats into other things that people don't expect. There's many ways, people in the areas where there's not a large immigrant population are going to find, there is an increased cost. Service industries, farming, meat packing, for just a few.

wallet suffering totally counts. if the protest had lasted longer and spread a lot farther, a lot more people would've felt it.

Healthcare definitely suffers - in areas where we can least afford it. All the boonies and ghettos are ran by immigrant physicians because very few people otherwise want to be in the boonies, and practically no one in the ghettos. (Not because immigrant doctors are so altruistic, but because that's how they get to live and practice in the US.)

Cheeto's approval at 39% makes me gleeful.

i wouldn't have guessed healthcare right away, but i can totally see it. almost any field there are going to be jobs that people don't want, or in places they don't want to work, and immigrants are going to end up there because it's work they can get.

and his approval rating dropped since his inauguration! which is apparently not something that generally happens.

Well, here, the front office of our apartment complex closed, and because it's raining, the power went out, and we got a call from PG&E telling us they'd get it fixed as soon as they could, but they had a skeleton crew so it might be a while. PG&E never apologizes for anything!

We haven't actually been out other than that today. I drop Ben off at a con later tonight; I'll see what's up while I'm out.

i didn't notice anything different, but i don't generally go anywhere during the day, and the bus and t were running about as frequently as they normally do. but i also don't know how widespread the protest was out here.
