today was a much better day. i didn't screw anything up or forget to do anything important, and if i did, no one called me out on it. and my snow boots came! now that the snow is melting and it's not supposed to snow any more in the near future. oh well. at least i have them for the next storm. they're warm and fuzzy and calf-height and hopefully waterproof.
today is apparently a "day without immigrants", in protest of the cheeto's immigration policies. immigrants were encouraged to not go to work or school, and to not spend money, to show how much the us actually needs them. my guess is that it's more effective in places with a high percentage of foreign-born residents (naturalized and not) - so, like, it might be more visible in new york than in, say, boston. (not that there aren't immigrants in boston - apparently one of the biggest brazilian communities is sort of near where my parents used to live - which to be fair isn't actually boston - but new york is a more melty pot.) there are however a bunch of restaurants here that closed today, or stayed open with a limited menu or limited service, in solidarity and because so many of their employees would be out.
one of the places that closed is anna's taqueria, which is a local chain - there's one not far from me - their burritos are delish. and cheap. i plan to keep patronizing them. :D
and look, unless you're 100% native american, you're the descendant of immigrants. (my grandfather came to this country when he was five.) i don't think the us would grind to a halt if all the foreign-born folks living here decided to stop working and spending money and going to school, but we'd definitely suffer.
also and possibly related, the cheeto's approval rating is something like 39%. heh.
what else did i want to tell you lovely people? i got a big heart of half-price valentine's chocolate on my way home yesterday, and i am now sharing it with my writing group. (we're having a writing session right now. this does not mean i should be updating lj.) i also had a creme egg, because i love me some cadbury's.
