fucking mondays

Jan 31, 2017 00:18

oh my flist, today was a monday. it culminated in a very loud, very shrieky, and not very happy small child on the bus home. to be fair, the kid's mom spent most of the trip gamely trying to calm the kid down - when the bus left the station, after the kid had made their displeasure known at length and at top volume, mom said "we're moving! yay ( Read more... )

boy scouts, ugh monday, ugh comcast, google doodles, resist resist, timeless

Definitely pointed commentary, considering there was a multi-campus walkout today. Ben's new job is over five miles away from Google HQ, and we *still* saw the march as we were trying to get home. Google was not screwing around today.

And...Reddit? Yeah. Reddit. Generally cesspool, but for the first time in possibly ever, made a political statement? What? (I don't do Reddit, but Ben does, and he was utterly astonished. Proud, though.)

https://www.reddit.com/r/blog/comments/5r43td/an_open_letter_to_the_reddit_community/ Apparently that was on the front page all day yesterday. Ben says they have never once had a Reddit Proclamation type thing like that.

I've been calling it the "Muslims Trump doesn't do business with" ban, since that's was it is. I've also been debating starting to drink regularly. If this is what the first 2 weeks are like, it's going to be a LONG 4 years.

I haven't watched Timeless yet. Considering what the plot was going to be (and that Wyatt couldn't succeed, considering how the show is) I just... couldn't watch him fail. *sigh*

you're not wrong! it's like security theater, almost, except much more mean-spirited. i mean there's no actual national security to be gained by preventing syrian refugees from emigrating to the us, y'know? all it does it stir people up and make us feel like we should be grateful to the cheeto for protecting us from those scary brown people.

timeless was, uh, well, the show's cavalier attitude towards time travel continues to make me nuts, and i can't figure out what rittenhouse is or why we should care, but it was actually kind of an interesting episode. and there was no garcia flynn, which wasn't totally terrible. (altho he does pretty up the show when he's on.)

There was a petition to have Fred Korematsu as the google doodle on that day. Though, I'm sure the pointed commentary made it easy for Google to accede.

i hope they would've done it even if it hadn't been such a pointed comment. it's nice to know doodle petitions can work, tho.
