fannish things and also some badassery

two things of a fannish nature:

fandom trumps hate, an online auction to benefit a raft of charities and progressive organizations.

is anyone going to confabulation? it's like wincon but with a new name. it's over memorial day weekend in pittsburgh and you should come. :D ( Read more... )

confabcon, ugh comcast, new job second floor, tiny show, outer space, badass women, sebastian stan, fandom trumps hate

OMG, this woman reporter sounds like such a badass. And I LOVE that the article is about her work - not how she looks or how many children she managed to raise or how she preserved her marriage through it all.

Also! You go pimp that tiny show! Then we can all cry crocodile tears over Norway hogging it all. Hopefully by the time Confabulation comes along, they stop with this bullshit.

Meanwhile, have a blast in Florida!

they mention one of her lovers at one point, but don't really talk about her romantic or married life until the end of the article, after all the journalistic badassery. it's pretty cool. and they don't open with how pretty she was!

my cousin jason's kid's bar mitzvah is the same weekend as the con and i'm not sure what i'm going to do. so who knows, there might not be pimping after all.

i am home and tanner than ever! also i have a dentist appointment. >.< what a thing to come home to.

OMG, thank you for posting that interview. What a treat to listen to! He even does "Romanian Face". :) It's so funny to hear him talk because he doesn't sound like a native Romanian; his accent isn't very good... which means, frankly, that he sounds like ME! And the [colleagues redacted]. :)

(And it's so cool that he got them to move the scenes in the Avengers movie to Bucharest, so he could speak more Romanian!)

what's "romanian face"? and i get the impression he only ever talks to his mom in romanian, so it's not like he has a lot of chances to improve his accent. i'm kind of amused that he doesn't sound like a native any more, altho i'm not totally surprised. i think after he moved to the states he worked very hard to lose his "english isn't my first language" accent.

(i love that the answer to "why is bucky in bucharest?" is "so sebstan can speak his mother tongue on screen".)

I watched that SebStan interview, too; I really liked how in depth and personal it was. It felt sincere in a way that American interviews seldom get to be. Though I did look askance at the proclamation that his roles are usually "sexy tough guys". Sexy, yes. But definitely slanted toward how lovely he looks both crying and kissing guys. Though I get why you wouldn't want to say that about the pride of Romania. ;)

maybe recently they're all sexy tough guys, if by "sexy tough guys" you mean "bucky barnes/the winter soldier". :D i caught that too, considering his really good tv roles were pretty boys who liked kissing other boys and cried so beautifully. but yeah, i can understand why that didn't come up. it was a good interview, wasn't it? maybe because romanian interviewers don't get a crack at him as much as american interviewers do, so the questions can be more personal and interesting.

surprise! he left the country when he was eight and he's been in the states since he was twelve, so part of me is surprised he speaks it as well as he does. even if he did have to ask the interviewer a couple times what a word was in romanian. he's so cute when interviewers or congoers randomly say something to him in his mother tongue.

I really like the idea of Fandom Trumps being used in this instance. :D
