As a Jew who's grandparents lost aunts and uncles and cousins in the Holocaust I feel weird that I don't have the righteous anger that I think I should about that. Mostly I guess because I just feel so battered down by the stupid. The plot makes absolutely no sense at all on any level. Hydra wouldn't be recruiting random battered spouses and sickly, presumed to die children in the 20s. Sorry, they just weren't. Unless they had time machines but then why not just kill him and let history develop the way they wanted, i.e. WWII as opposed to having him do something about it now? Or, along those lines, why didn't Steve do a little less to stop Hydra the 80 million times it came down to him being the only one who could have (and did) stop their plans? It's just so mind numbingly moronic of a storyline I guess I just don't have the wherewithall to get annoyed by it and the ratings/sales stunt it so obviously is. I agree with everything you said about it and the wrongness of it all, but I just can't get riled up about that (which annoys me ( ... )

i was too focused on the character stupid to realize the plot stupid. because yeah, what good is a battered woman as a hydra recruit? or her asthmatic i-think-he-has-a-heart-condition-too son. it's like they're not even trying to make it make sense, which just makes the whole thing worse. they don't care. well, obviously they don't care, because if they did they would have thought up a fun, edgy twist that wasn't "captain america was a nazi this whole time and we're spitting on the graves of the guys who created him, surprise!"

the cave is super cool, tho, isn't it? that is really fucking old.

The plot stupid is even stupider than it appears because when you see the panels you find out that they recruit Sarah by (after very short meeting between her and female agent person) giving her a flyer. All the flyer says on it is the time and place of the meeting of the NYC chapter of Hydra and has a HUGE hydra symbol on it.Yes, that creepy half-dead not quite octopus symbol- that thing is what they show people to get them interested in the group. Really? That is one freaky, odd, scary symbol. What scared, 20 something battered woman living in a time where she was supposed to take the cards life dealt her (and brought up to do so) would risk going to something like that ( ... )

The entire stunt just reeks of SO much entitled and myopic privilege - I swear, it's like Trump himself is writing the damn series and creating the marketing for it.

i can't believe no one at any point said "y'know, guys, maybe we shouldn't take the character who was explicitly created to fight nazis and turn him into one." just... no one realized what a shit show this was going to turn into? no one thought it was insensitive and cruel and mind-bendingly stupid?

man, i wish someone could resurrect jack kirby just so he could march into the marvel offices and give everyone responsible a good hard punch.

Damn, I'm not even following the series but I'm annoyed. I HATE when series do a moronic flip like that, something they clearly came up with recently, which makes zero sense with earlier canon and, what's better, tries to turn everything that was great and beloved about the character into a lie. But noooo, can't just make it dumb and nonsensical, it has to be incredibly offensive on top of everything, too.

I've forgotten about Totoro, and so pictured "catbus" as a bus where you ride with a bunch of cats. I'd ride that bus!

according the editor, they've been planning this for a year. i think that makes it worse, that they've had a year in which no one said "maybe this is a bad idea and we should rethink it" loud enough to make them listen. and yeah, it makes ZERO sense. it's character assassination, is what it is. among other things.

i would totally ride a bus with a bunch of cats! my favorite cats are cats that belong to someone else. :D
