last night i made an apple cake for passover and it made my whole house smell like cinnamon. i was sorely tempted to cut a piece to try it - i've never made it before and wanted to make sure it was fit to serve to people - but i refrained mostly because i'd be really embarrassed to take a cake with a tiny piece cut out of it to my parents' house ( Read more... )

vikings, passover, new job second floor, rip, baked goods, cool shit, the 100, architectural huh

Aaaaand now I have to make apple cake. Well, it's technically honey cake, but it has apples in it. Either way, it is Passover-friendly. My therapist lets me give her one that week in lieu of payment.

honey cake with apples? interesting! my only experience of honey cake is around rosh hashanah, and i can't quite picture apples in it. i'll post the recipe for the apple cake if you're curious. and i love that your therapist lets you pay her in baked goods!

Oo - what kind of cake? I love cinnamon in anything but I tend not to have a lot of it during pesach.

apple cake! it's basically kind of an orange cake with apples on top (there's orange juice and grated orange rind in the batter). the cinnamon is just sprinkled on top, but it's mixed with sugar and there's a lot of it. now that i've tried it and other people have given it their stamp of approval, i'll post the recipe for everyone to try. :D

do you eat a lot of matzahs and milk? because i put a lot of cinnamon in mine. cinnamon and sugar. (sometimes nutmeg if i grab the wrong thing in the pantry by accident. >.< )

also i was reminded that he was part of a pretty filthy joke on animaniacs, and you have to wonder how the censors let that pass.

Hahaha, wow.

On a related note, I just saw Animaniacs go up on Netflix and I'm tempted to start watching.

someone in the animaniacs office knew that adults and older siblings were watching that show, and not just little kids. i actually wondered sometimes if kids were even the target audience. it was on in the afternoons, so you could watch after school, but seriously, joking about fingering prince? that was totally aimed at people like me.

it was a fun show! i totally recommend checking it out.

I am dying over here, reading about the foodstuff you get at work! That's some delicious foodstuff.

Also, that's an unfortunate thing about cakes and pies that you can't cut a tiny sliver to test it!

they could pay me more, but there are some definite perks to working where i do. did i mention there's a soft-serve ice cream machine in the cafe? and that we have stuff to put on our ice cream? :D

not to rub it in or anything....

i probably could have cut a little piece, since i just cut it into squares and put them on a plate when i got to my parents' house, but i would know there was a piece missing, and part of me would be totally embarrassed.

No way Lagertha is dead. It was clearly a shoulder wound. But she may not be able to fight anymore...

it looked like a really serious shoulder wound! altho ragnar survived all the internal injuries he suffered the first time he tried to take paris, and we never saw lagertha's actual funeral - altho she didn't even rate a mention in the flashforward - so she could conceivably still be alive. i did love how a bunch of warrior women surrounded her body on the ship, tho. the ptb are really consistent with the way she trains and takes care of the women around her, and how loyal they are to her in return.

that is an excellent icon of her, by the way. very "do not fuck with me".

I loved the warrior women who came to her aid, too. I guess I just don't believe that they'd kill Lagertha, especially when they made such a point to rescue her. She's too awesome!

And I loved her moment with Einar. Had to cap it.
