i officially moved up to tax today - after the requisite couple of hours sitting at reception - and i am officially staying there at least until october 15, because that's the end of their busy season. (which is good, because i'm going to pittsburgh for wincon on the 16th.) i didn't have a lot to do today, but i still have to be trained on a bunch of ( Read more... )

Yay! Congrats on moving to tax!

Also, the pinboard guy's thoughts on fandom are so refreshing and generous. Listened to the talk a few years back and just love it.

thank you! here's hoping i get to stay there, and that they move me off the fucking front desk sometime soon.

it's always so nice to read something about fandom from someone who isn't fannish but who seems to understand a particular fannish behavior, and who's kindly disposed towards fangirls.

This is SO much better than, "Hey, is my job going away?" Which seemed like that might have been possible, too.

HOW can that guy draw charcoal portraits that look like photographs? And how does he not mess up the white parts, like the teeth or the earring or the "gleam"/rims in the sunglasses? :O

ETA: That Pinboard article was amazing (and boy, did he correctly characterize a lot of what has slowly broken LiveJournal, including "refreshing the UI just because!"). The most staggering thing, really, was that mammoth document that people collaboratively updated, organized, and even posted fixes too. Must have been _hundreds_ of people. And I think, really... when people talk the differences in how women work together vs. men, well... most of those collaborators were women. And when you see that amazing, improbably result, you realize what we're missing out on as a society by still mostly being male-driven in our outlook and methods.

the fact that i don't have to worry about losing my job is SUCH A RELIEF. altho now they seem determined to turn me into a receptionist, and... no. so much no.

i could not get over that massive, massive document. the fact that an obscene number of people seem to have edited it, added to it, indexed it, and written a faq for the whole process is really fucking impressive. it sounded like such an amazing fannish endeavor, altho also like it might have gotten out of hand from the perspective of the pinboard guy. i can just imagine him trying to read the thing and wondering what he's gotten himself into. and yeah, it's proof that women working together can get shit done. go us.
