It's amazing how many movies this year are remakes, and of perfectly good classics that stand the test of time and don't need a remake. Not that I'm complaining, in the case of Mad Max :D

I watched the preview of Jurassic World, and it seemed so silly with all the intelligent, telepathic or whatever dinosaurs.

i don't know if mad max counts as a remake so much as a continuation of the franchise with a different actor playing max. and jurassic world was silly. the raptors were really intelligent in the first movie, tho, and it's less that they're telepathic and more that they're as well-trained as wild prehistoric creatures can be, and they talk to each other. if you don't care whether or not the plot makes any sense, it's a fun movie.

(i read an article last night about paleontologists' reactions to jurassic world, and they seem to like it, terrible science and all, because it gets people talking about dinosaurs, and boosts general interest in dinosaurs, and it means there are more jobs for paleontologists. which seems like a very silver-lining way to look at the movie.)

there are a lot of sequels and remakes this movie season, tho. we saw previews for mockingjay pt 2 (the last hunger games movie), and the next mission: impossible, and i keep seeing previews for terminator: genisys on tv ( ... )

If the movie Martian is anything like the book, the science is THE ONLY thing that is solid. The only one. Everything else sucks balls. But Sebastian Stan, though!

but what does it say that i expect huge chunks of the movie - even the parts that aren't dinosaur - to be cgi and greenscreen?

I haven't seen JW yet, but I felt this way about the new Avengers movie too. Like, I can suspend my disbelief, but at this point it's like watching a cartoon. EVERYTHING is CGI. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm not sure it's a good thing either.

that was one of the things i didn't really like about aou. i mean, i liked a lot of the stunts and action sequences, and the flying city was really cool, but holy cow, it was all cgi. vision's cape didn't even look real, and that was costuming. the next day i saw mad max, which has very little cgi, and in retrospect some of aou looked cheesy.

i expect all the dinosaurs in jw to be cgi, altho i think there were some animatronic ones, but the sets? some of the action sequences? i shouldn't be looking at the non-dinosaur parts and wondering what's real and what's not.
