laser engraved rolling pins! they roll out patterns in your dough. there's one with a reindeer head print, for the hannibal fen in the audience. (yes, i know it's not a reindeer in the show. but the rolling pin has appropriate antlers.)

yesterday i worked through lunch, partly because i wasn't paying attention to what time it was, and partly because i realized if i did that, i could go home early. so i went home early. :D and then walked down to the diesel to have dinner and attempt to make some edits on my bigbang. i made a very small amount of progress, but it's better than nothing. i post in a month. woot.

who else is watching defiance? so all the mccawleys are dead, except for pilar? i was not expecting them to all bite it! i'm kind of disappointed, to be honest. i liked rafe. i didn't think christie got enough to do until the very end of the last season, which was also disappointing, but i guess they killed her off rather than figure out how to continue her storyline. hmph.

on the other hand, i do love that pilar is played by sarah connor linda hamilton. and it's nice to have another mother-child relationship to balance out all the father-child ones. especially now that we have the father-daughter omec duo.

the castithan bad guy - lee tergesen! who seems to be making a career of playing villains - seemed kind of boringly bad. like, even as an alien, his villainny isn't any different from a human bad guy. also, the white castithan wigs continue to be unconvincing. the only person who looks good with that hair is jaime murray.

i liked that the guy in defiance who wanted irisa to sign his book wanted her to sign it for his boyfriend. aww. and i still like doc ywell, partly because she's always so cranky and cynical.

today my sister and i saw jurassic world, and overall i liked it. there was some stupid in the plot and while i like chris pratt i'm not totally sold on him as a straight-up action-adventure hero (as opposed to a goofy comic-booky action-adventure hero, which he was in gotg). i kept expecting a snappy one-liner where there wasn't one. but the dinosaurs looked really good and it was nice and intense in parts. i liked the random references to the first movie, too.

when the raptors find the indominus rex and talk to it, and then all five of them turn and look at the guys with guns, that made me giggle and go "ohshit" at the same time. the raptors were very cute prehistoric carnivores.

also, i thought the romance was dumb and unnecessary. from the way claire reacted to hearing owen was working there, and from the way they reacted to each other when she went to find him, i assumed they were exes, not that they'd had a single (unsuccessful) date. the time they'd spent together pre-movie seemed way out of proportion to their feelings for each other.

the only thing is i kept wondering what was cgi and what was actual built set. the fact that i couldn't tell is probably a good thing, but what does it say that i expect huge chunks of the movie - even the parts that aren't dinosaur - to be cgi and greenscreen?
