What I just finished reading:
the lies of locke lamora, which i liked a lot altho i wanted more detail in the world building, by which i mean a map with the countries on it, and blade of the immortal: final curtain, which is the last volume and ends in a very satisfying way. i've been reading boi for probably twelve years and it's really weird to ( Read more... )

I am ready to read this story. I have this image of their meeting at an art museum. Like the Gardner does some Jazz thing on Thursday evenings, right? So maybe they meet at something like that?

well i have to write it first. :p and i coincidentally enough have an image of the two of them at the temple of dendur in the metropolitan museum, and he's looking at it like it's the coolest thing he's ever seen. so i like the idea of them randomly meeting at a museum event or something.

I was waiting until Sat to ask you in person about your plot bunny, but OHMYGOD WRITE THIS STORY I NEED IT IN MY LIFE LIKE KITTIES AND RAINBOWS! You need to tell me about it. We need to brainstorm it.

A legit way for them to meet is if his mother joins her social circle somehow. Or how about -- he is a pianist, and his mother is hired to sing at a very posh cocktail party Meryl is throwing... he is not her usual pianist, not quite up to her level of difficulty, but he is available in a pinch. Sebastian's mom's name might possibly be Georgeta, but you could also leave her out of it, if Meryl is hiring a musician and gets Sebastian as a last minute sub ( ... )

the only thing is that the guy moved away from home, and his parents aren't local. i like tamalinn's idea of having them meet at a museum somethingorother, altho there's still a tiny part of me that wants him to be an escort. so maybe they meet at the museum, he gives her his card - because he wants to see her again but isn't sure she wants to see him - she calls the escort service to hire him to take her to the ballet or the opera or the symphony - because she does actually want to see him again - and it goes from there. possibly. but yes, he just goes WHOMP right into the deep end pretty much right from the start.

i love that story about the woman in the batman tights! your response was perfect.

tardoi! i'm never going to remember that.

I am in love with this bunny.

I think the museum meet-cute would totally work. :)

I would totally buy those tights too if I could find them.

One thing about the word TARDIS is that the Doctor's Granddaughter Susan made it up. The Time Lords didn't call them TARDISes, they were called Time Travel Capsules, or, TT capsules. So really, the only Tardis is the one belonging to the Doctor. But I like Greek plurals, so, tardoi! :)

I liked Lies of Locke Lamora much better than the 2nd in the series. Although the 2nd one was still an enjoyable enough read. I've not read the 3rd one and, from what I've gathered from stalking goodreads opinions, I don't think I'll bother.

But.... I did like the 1st one a lot. I've never really paid much attention to maps in books, so didn't notice it wasn't there.

i've heard the second one is good, but i think my sample size is kind of small. (like, probably two people.) the second one has a lady pirate! why didn't you like it as much as the lies of locke lamora?

i like maps in general, but especially in fantasy novels because i want to know where things are. and they mention enough other countries and city-states that i needed to be able to place them all in relation to each other on a map.

Oh yes. Her. I REMEMBER NOW.
So I had to go to my goodreads to remind myself why I think I liked #1 better than #2 (it's been over a year since I read it) and apparently I gave both of them 4 stars. Ha!!

I do remember finding the 2nd book more inconsistent than the 1st and I was disappointed by some stuff I don't want to spoil for. And there was "purpose" introduced. Heists! Shenanigans! Who wants "purpose"?!?! ;p
