yesterday was the anniversary of women getting the right to vote in the us. ninety-four years. so all you american ladies out there better be registered to vote, and when the time comes, you better take advantage of it. your female forebears didn't chain themselves to ballot boxes and get thrown in jail for nothing! but also, if you don't vote ( Read more... )

I got through three of those photos before nausea made me stop.

The high pitched dolphin-like squeal you heard was my 200lb husband, upon seeing the car graphic.

my first impulse at seeing really tall buildings is always "how do i get to the top of that?" but some of those photos really made me dizzy. so yeah, not for the vertigo-susceptible or people who are afraid of heights.

i wondered what that squeaky squeeful noise was.... :D

oh my god, so do i. if you tell me you don't vote in at least the presidential elections - because i'll totally cut people slack for not always voting for local or state congresscritters, altho i do think you should at least try to vote for governors and mayors - especially if you don't seem to understand why it's important to do so, i will lose so much respect for you. if you don't like any of the candidates, fine. write one in. if you think the whole election process is a sham, also fine, but not exercising your constitutionally-given right to vote kind of defeats the purpose of your protest, because you're not doing anything. especially with the news about voter disenfranchisement and all the roadblocks that repubs like to throw up for, say, voters of color or younger voters or voters who live in random liberal pockets of red states - the government has given you the opportunity (however useless you may think it is) to speak your mind. fucking take it.

i see cool cars, i must share. :D especially when there are a lot of

The last two presidential election my great-aunt (who just turned 100 two weeks ago) emailed all her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces/nephews and all their children and grandkids that could vote about how she remembered marching with her mother and older siblings so women could vote and GOD HELP YOU if you didn't vote. You would FEEL HER WRATH (this coming from a tiny 5 foot nothing, soft spoken Jewish grandma, it was adorable and scary).

oh my god, your great-aunt is 100. holy carp. i love that she emailed everyone of voting age and told them to vote or they would SUFFER. the mental image makes me giggle, but i also really love that she remembered when women couldn't vote, and that her mom and older sibs marched so that someday they could. because i think we forget, because it was so long ago, that for a long time women's voices didn't legally count.

But how do you get a job as the guy who loads the salmon cannon? Do they advertise on job sites: "Salmon Cannon Operator - No Experience Required"? I have so many questions.

Ugh, voting is not to be taken for granted, even here and now. Also, I want a salmon cannon. :(

the constitution gives you the right to vote! and especially if you can make it to the polls and cast your vote with no trouble, when so many people have to go to some serious effort to make their voices heard - i mean, florida voters having to stand in line for seven hours to vote at midnight - you god damn do it.

i volunteered to help out during the last presidential election and ended up being the person who checks you off in the giant book o' voters when you show up, so i got to read a lot of names and hear a lot of accents, and the registered voters for whom english was CLEARLY not their first language made me so happy. (i was all "new citizens!" in my head every time. altho who knows how long some of them had been living here.) and, like, people brought their little kids. it was pretty fabulous and i was really proud of my ward. altho my wrist and arm were so sore the next day from all the page-turning.

personally i just like saying "salmon cannon". >(((">
