What I just finished reading:
jonathan strange and mr norrell, FINALLY. i've been reading it for two months, because it is just that big. jeebus. i didn't like a lot of the characters for a lot of the book, which made it occasionally very hard to read, but i kept wanting to know what happened next. i thought the ending was satisfying altho i'm

That Victorian slang list is fantastic. "Got the morbs" sounds like something out of tumblr, yes?

that's what i thought too! it seems very modern for victorian slang. i wonder if we could get it to catch on again....

I have a copy of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and have *intentions* of reading it one day - it's just daunting.

it's a bit intimidating, yeah. on the plus side, it's probably great for squashing any bugs that cross your path while you're reading it. and it has footnotes! which i personally really enjoyed.

Oh, I've heard of Thieftaker and had it recommended to me before. I'll be interested to see what you think about it.

Criminal Minds gets ALL THE GEOGRAPHIC details wrong. Or at least to the point that you can tell not only did they not film where ever they are claiming to be, but they didn't even google about it. I haven't watched in ages, but there was an episode where they went to Long Island and I laughed myself silly for an hour.

thieftaker is good so far, and i'm not just saying that because it's set in colonial boston. :D altho i'm kind of annoyed that the female characters so far are the main character's beautiful tavern-owning girlfriend, his beautiful thieftaker competition, and a beautiful dead girl. oh, and the main character's sister, who is apparently not beautiful - shock! - but does act like an older sister. there's a bit more physical variety in the male characters. but it's an interesting read so far and i keep wanting to know what happens, which is always good.

Oh, beyond it not looking like Commack at all they got basic stuff wrong/ridiculous. They claimed they could prevent the unsub they were chasing from leaving the Island easily... like throwing up a roadblock or two and easy peasy. Except there are SO MANY WAYS off LI and hundreds of thousands of people taking them and they would be shutting it down DURING RUSH HOUR. And that was only one thing.
