Uhm. Reformed pirate turned Priest who then...falls? Again?

Wasn't the dude who wrote Amazing Grace a pirate? Ok, so writing the song didn't make him a priest, but...

Is it necessary to capitalize priest?

Clearly I have too many thoughts right now.

a story about a friar who has a crisis of faith and the heretic who causes it

Knowledge of Angels by Jill Paton Walsh

It is, perhaps, the fifteenth century and the ordered tranquillity of a Mediterranean island is about to be shattered by the appearance of two outsiders: one, a castaway, plucked from the sea by fishermen, whose beliefs represent a challenge to the established order; the other, a child abandoned by her mother and suckled by wolves, who knows nothing of the precarious relationship between Church and State but whose innocence will become the subject of a dangerous experiment. But the arrival of the Inquisition on the island creates a darker, more threatening force which will transform what has been a philosophical game of chess into a matter of life and death...

half of that sounds like my idea! nrgh. altho i was going for south of france (ish) in the 13th or 14th century, and my friar comes with the inquisition. but still! i can guarantee that that book is better written than my fic would be, tho.

I think you should a) read the book and b) not give up on your fic, because there's bound to be a substantial deviation in style, character, and plot. :) Everyone's writing & ideas are different in some way...
