holy shit dave sim has a kickstarter. O.O hands up everyone who read cerebus (even if you gave up at some point because of a. the story, b. the lack of story, c. dave being kind of a jackass as a person, or d. a combination of the above). anyway. evidently the kickstarter is to raise funds to make high society (one of the graphic novels, aka " ( Read more... )

oh god yes, such a monumental asshole. and i don't think he's gotten any less so as he's gotten older. it would still be pretty cool to be able to read the entire run of cerebus on, like, a kindle or a tablet, tho. i can't imagine the art would lose much by being shrunk to kindle size....

Oh Dave Sim.

I keep thinking I will read Cerebus, at least the early stuff, on my nook because I could get it from work, but then I keep… not because he turned out to be such a douchebag. I find it really interesting that he's still managing to bank on people caring about his Thoughts about his work though -- I assume that's the point of the "oral history"/commentary stuff.

i admit i generally find that kind of thing really interesting - i read author's notes for fic on lj that i don't want to read - but i don't care what dave has to say about a particular issue or whatever. he was an asshole twenty years ago and i don't doubt he's an asshole now (and i always wondered how gerhard could work for him because i think he was a decent human being) but obviously enough people like his work to fund his project. someone pimped him on twitter - that's how i knew - and i bet that helped.

some of cerebus is genuinely worth reading, but i honestly think the most important thing about it is its existence, and not so much the story and the art. so you're also not missing much.
