The book Dark Tide about the molasses flood is excellent. An MIT professor actually was instrumental in making the case that USIA was at fault for shoddily building the tank. My book club read the book and then went for lunch in the North End and on a hunt to find where the tank was. There is a marker right on Commercial Street where it all happened.

Before I die, I want to hear opera at La Scala, see the Sistine Chapel, ride on a gondola in Venice, and fall in love in Florence.

It is where the baseball diamond/children's playground is. We couldn't smell the molasses, but it was a cold rainy day.

2.3 million gallons of molasses I read that 3 times to make sure I read it right..Holy bijoly that's a lot of molasses! I'm surprised it's still not there!

also, that art in NO about made me cry! that's truly awesome!

it was a lot of molasses! they apparently had to blast it with salt water to get it off everything.

i don't know how fast the flood moved, altho you have to wonder, if it had been in july would it have been quicker.... stickier, no doubt.
