there's no way to explain this other than to say the chances of me writing any more of any of these stories/'verses is increasingly small - never say never but also never say there'll be lots more - so i figured i'd just tell y'all what happens and then i'll feel more like the stories are done and i can go on to something else. like drawing a line ( Read more... )

Wow. I would like to congratulate you on moving on to the next thing . . .and of course you have every right to do it. But I can't. I have been reading your stuff for years, and when you put up the master list o'fic I went back through everything. I'll be honest, not all of the storylines were my cup of tea. But they were all wonderfully, wonderfully written, and some of them --- the ot4 in particular, simon and jay --- became an integral part of my imagination in the same way that Mark Helprin's, Connie Willis' and Armistead Maupin's stuff live there. It's completely selfish, I know, and you don't exist to be my personal Scheherezade (sp?), but it is genuinely upsetting to think that I won't be hearing those voices any more. I hope you get the urge, but if you don't, thanks so much for so many years of happy reading.

first, this comment made me cry. (in a good way!) second, i wish i knew who you were! (if this is jesse, dude, sign your name. :p ) but third, there is no next thing. there's just a lot of storylines i'll never finish, and i think maybe if i just clear my brain out, so to speak, i can make room for something i'll actually write. but y'know, these are the characters i know and these are the stories i've told, and i can't say i'll never write them again, just that i think the glory days (such as they were) are over.

and also, thank you so much. i've never read mark helprin or armistead maupin, but i love connie willis and to be compared to her in any way is a HUGE, HUGE compliment.

I've been fighting some medical problems, so this is the first time I have been back on the internet in several days, or I would have responded to this sooner! First of all, if you want something wonderful to read, and who doesn't want something wonderful to read, Mark Helprin's "Winter's Tale". The fact that you haven't ready Maupin stuns me (in a good way), and "Tales of the City" is like Trollope, it goes on forever, and brings you into this entirely wonderful world in which I think you would be totally at home ( ... )
