should i have just cut a piece to fit in the bottom of the baking pan? i use parchment paper when i make cookies and i love it. but i never thought of using it with cake.

Exactly, that's what I do.or cut little flaps so it runs up the sides too and you can just lift the cake right out, the pan doesn't even get dirty.

A friend of mine showed me the secret trick for bread machines: use cooking spray on the mixer thingie AND on the spindle that it goes on. That way at least the bread comes out, and you can later dig the mixer out of the bottom of the loaf, if necessary.

>>But I always end up with the cake already fallen apart before I've realized it's stuck<<

i think that's going to be my problem too - it already started falling apart and now i'm kind of afraid to try and get it out of the pan before i cut it into pieces.

the sides of the non-stick pan are definitely non-stick.... i don't why the bottom can't be non-stick too. hmph.

Oh crap :( I have no help for this time... but next time, an alternative to grease-and-flour is Baker's Joy or similar product.

I have no suggestion for getting the cake out (without it becoming a big mess) but I'm hoping you'll find one so you can eat your parents can enjoy your yummy cake!

i think i'm just going to leave it in the pan until i cut it, and then pry the pieces out one by one. i think it might be easier to get a single piece out than a whole cake.

sounds like an excellent plan! And, since it's already cut up it'll be easy to serve!
