my parents' surprise anniversary party is tomorrow and one of my jobs - because i volunteered for it - is to make a red velvet cake. piece of, uh, cake, right? first i ran out of flour (by, like, thismuch). >.< so i run to the store, pick up flour, run home, make cake. pop it in the oven. take it out after half an hour. let it cool in the pan as directed. attempt to take it out of pan so it can finish cooling on the wire rack. discover that non-stick baking pan... isn't. as in, i turned the pan upside-down over the rack and part of the cake fell out, as the whole cake seems to be stuck to the bottom of the pan.
so i tried not to panic, gently tried to fit the separated piece of cake back on top of the rest of the cake, and stuck it back in the oven for five more minutes, because i wasn't 100% sure it was really done baking. thank god for frosting, is all i can say. and next time i'll grease and flour the bottom of the pan. the sides of the pan? no problem. a little knifing and the cake separates nicely. but the bottom? not so much.
and now that it's too late to do anything about it, how do i get a cake out of a pan when it doesn't seem to want to come out, because it's stuck to the bottom? aside from that it's a really beautiful cake, bright red and moist and tasty. we can't serve it in the pan, tho.
well this sucks,
baking,
cake
