i have a maple-glazed doughnut that tastes like fall and reminds me of vermont (do i really want to drive three and a half, four hours for half a dozen very small doughnuts?) and my computer is absolutely choking on 2400 dpi scans that someone wants for a video presentation for one of our jobs. "the highest resolution you can get," she says. " ( Read more... )

work, 9/11, navel gazing, very small doughnuts

*Hugs* Six years ago, I got up with the boy, who was in infant, and turned on the TV. We were lying on the rug in the room that's now our bedroom -- but was a TV room -- and he was nursing, and I was channel surfing, and I stopped on a channel that was showing that a plane had just crashed into one of the towers. They were talking about what a horrible accident it was, etc, and then the second plane hit and what had been fairly chaotic turned into complete chaos. It was crazy, crazy, crazy. *More hugs*

I think I'd like a monument there. I don't know if I'd like it as tall - maybe. I don't want it to be an office building again. Tall buildings scare me now - I read somewhere about the tallest building in the world, I think it's in Dubai, and I said something like, "Are they crazy?" and it took me a moment to realize that it's just since 2001 that I thought about tall buildings as a liability.

I don't know. I hate the way we react, reacted to 9/11 but it hasn't stopped hurting. I'm not a flag waver and I hate that we've decided that the way to deal with this is killing...but I can't get people falling out of my head. It's hard to reconcile the two, at least I feel like it is in other people's minds. Can't you be sad without espousing certain values? I hope so.

Thank you for the Kaddish.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around playing "Hallelujah" over the footage, and I. Just. Can't. What a misappropriation.

I really don't know what to say about 9/11. Some Senator yesterday, I want to say Harry Reid, but I don't think it was him, said basically that 9/11 brought the countries of the world closer to America, but the six years of war in Iraq has destroyed all of the good will. URGH.

I never knew the translation of the kaddish; that is beautiful.

Oh, and a very happy new year. :D
