Mark is in love with Eduardo.
Eduardo isn't into guys.
I just want a painfully sad and awkward conversation between the two of them as Mark confesses that he's in love and then Eduardo has to let him down because he doesn't and can't reciprocate, and it's just sad all around.

This was lovely. I like how you made this succinct and understated, it added to the drama. Thank you for filling.

Yes, exactly what I was going for. I mean it's within Mark's character to think and sound concise so that's how I wrote him. Do you think I should have been more descriptive or were there enough details?

Eduardo’s standing in Mark’s doorway, watching the harsh hold he has on his posture, his fingers typing too quickly to catch what he hits when. He taps the keys in his hand on the bowl of spaghetti he made for Mark to eat (with just enough sauce to coat the pasta, never enough to choke Mark if he doesn’t pay enough attention to chewing it) and Mark looks up as if he’s just realized there’s another presence in his bedroom.
Knowing him, he probably has.
The keys in his hand get caught in Mark’s hair when he reaches to brush the Cheeto dust out of it, probably the only remnants of the last meal his friend had, and he bites his lip at the wince, touching the unwashed curls only to dislodge the keys so he can pocket them away from where they’d do any more damage ( ... )

Get away from what?
And then it dawns on him that Mark has been this way for weeks - that he’s been pulling from Eduardo’s touch every time, everywhere they might be - and those raised brows furrow as he turns his thoughts to why. He’s so intent on dissecting Mark’s reasons for hating to be touched (and by him especially, which is even odder, considering he seemed to have passed that barrier before) that he almost misses it when Mark spins around in the chair and points at the door, his eyes blank, but more carefully so than usual ( ... )

There’s desperation there, and frustration, and something painfully pure and honest. Eduardo’s chest suddenly feels tight, because Mark is coming closer, and his fingers curl in the perfectly pressed button down shirt covering Eduardo’s skin, and his lips are pushing too quickly through the air between them.
And Mark is right, it is gentle, when he pushes Mark away, carefully moves him to sit down in the chair again, but that changes nothing, it’s rejection. He knows it’s rejection and Mark knows, by the way he holds his breath, cutting off the harsh pants he was making a second ago, and stares at the floor as far from where Eduardo stands as possible.
Running back through Mark’s words in his head, he cannot prevent the soft, pitying way he speaks to his friend, his best friend, even though the sharp look Mark gives him tells him it isn’t appreciated ( ... )

And Eduardo doesn’t know why he says it, then, but he feels like someday when they look back on this conversation, Mark shouldn’t wonder if he was lying, if it was just Mark that he couldn’t be attracted to.
“I don’t want to leave, Mark. I don’t want to do that to you, because I admire you a lot, I do. I care for you, and not just in the literal sense,” he snorts at his own joke, trying for levity. Dustin would be better at it, but he would never let Dustin know what Mark’s just said, never hurt or betray Mark that way.
“I care for you,” he repeats, “and I want you to know things aren’t going to change between us after this, okay? We’ll still be best friends and I’ll still treat you the same.”
Mark’s breath hitches, and Eduardo considers what he’s said, thinking it over and clenching his fist to stop from smacking his hand over his eyes. He treats Mark so much like a significant other sometimes; perhaps things should change, evolve into a more ( ... )
