Comparisons

i was thinking about this after last week's Supernatural episode. the scenes with clearing the cobwebs away from the people's faces reminded me of something else i'd seen - maybe it was the XFiles, i can't remember. but it's what i do - compare what i watch and read to other things i've seen and read ( Read more... )

supernatural, firefly/serenity, andromeda, the vampire diaries, first wave, stargate, ramblings, farscape, harry potter, fandoms

Firefly was one of those shows I didn't manage to watch until after cancellation. And, It was one show that I intro duced the hubby to that he was very PO'd when he found out it was already cancelled.

It took no convincing to get him to watch Castle. Mr Fillion made a big impression on the hubster.

Perhaps that person who told you to stop comparing things thought you were trying to imply whatever was "first" in your comparison was better or whatever, and that was offensive? But really, comparing is how people relate to everything. That's how you write papers for school, how you decide what things you like, etc.

i totally agree. i don't really know why she told me to stop comparing, but she did, and i did't listen.

a friend of mine compared White Collar to Invisible Man, so there is that too.

oh, and i compared Moonlight to Forever Knight too.

We called it Fargate too. Also I always refer to some actors by the character I first met. For example Mark Sheppard will always be Badger (firefly) to me no matter how many shows he guests on.

I have a swiss cheese memory two but the tearing the spiderweb from the person happens in the Film Eight legged freaks.

There are another couple places i recall it happening. But as to say whether it was X files or another TV show Giant spider film i would be stretching.

Interesting. Personally I'm fine with people comparing shows to maybe give them idea of the feel or tone of them, however if you're trying to explain a show to someone I don't think a comparison with another show is what you should solely base the explanation on. It does sort of, behind that, imply that whatever show you're explaining doesn't warrant it's own description because simply comparing it with another show should be enough. Comparing definitely helps relate however, so as long as it's backed up.. yep.

well, i'd based my comparisons of Firefly on both Andromeda and Farscape.... and i'm pretty sure that the person who told me to stop comparing probably didn't see either of those shows. or maybe she just doesn't compare? idk.

but, after my initial comparison, i did post several posts after it in their own right, talking about the episodes.

True. It helps if the person has seen the show/s being compared to..
