Well, since you may be the only one interested, I'll comment instead of posting. :) I don't know about favorites, but these are the songs currently on heavy rotation in my car/home:

1. "Drive" by Incubus
2. "Presto" by Rush
3. "Only In Your Mind" by Steele (a track from the boyfriend's only-released-in-Japan hairmetal album, heh)
4. "Fell On Black Days" by Soundgarden
5. "Father's Day" by Mike Keneally
6. "Carpet Crawlers" as performed live by Giraffe

It's amazing how a guy like Kevin can affect so many people so deeply, even years after his death. I'm bummed that I never got to meet him or see him perform live (except on video).

Thank you for doing the meme! That's quite a fantastic array of current favorites. :)

How is the boyfriend's hairmetal album? That reminds me of a friend of mine who was in an 80s hairmetal band that was evidently pretty famous... in Brazil.

I love the Giraffe version of "Carpet Crawlers." Their whole Lamb show was just amazing. I completely agree with you about never meeting him or seeing him perform live... I didn't even think I'd get to see him perform at all until a friend hooked me up with some burnt DVDs. Kevin really was just an incredible individual. What a shame that he didn't seem to realize it.

I had a whole bunch of Kevin-related stuff, including the Lamb-in-its-entirety performance and an interview and a solo acoustic performance, on VHS...and I loaned it to a friend...and he never gave it back...and then he moved away. Grr. But I digress.

That last sentence you wrote...there are far too many brilliantly talented people like that, who don't realize how amazing they are.

The boyfriend's hairmetal album is...well (I am all about the ellipses today!)..."of an era," shall we say. :) It's the kind of album I would've loved to death when I was 11 or so (in fact, some of the backing vocals were performed by a guy whose own band's photo graced my closet door in junior high - along with a million other hairmetal band photos), which means that I find some of the lyrics and style mildly embarrassing* now. I do love the song I mentioned, though. I was too young to experience the lifestyle that went along with that music when it was happening, so it's interesting to be dating someone who actually was one of those guys I ( ... )

If I ever have access to a DVD-burner, I will be delighted to make you copies of the Kevin stuff I have (or I could readily make a DVD-to-VHS copy). I have The Lamb, the acoustic show, the interview, the Live at the Troubadour show, and some Toy Matinee randomness. Seriously -- if you want copies of them, it would be my pleasure to share.

I very much enjoyed hearing about The Boyfriend's hairmetal album -- I was intrigued when you first mentioned it in your journal. It sounds very, very entertaining! I'm right there with you on the junior high walls-covered-in-hairmetal-posters thing and can imagine how fantabulous it would be to dating a veteran of the hairmetal scene. It certainly sounds like things are going well between you two. :)
