“.. Yes doctor?”

“Please tell me, I want to know what the results are.”
“I think you need to sit down for a moment.”

The rain clattered down on the endless pavement he was walking on. Numerous cars passed him by and he cursed them slightly for their luck, while he had to walk all the way to his old Junior high school. The note he held in his clenched fist was an invitation to a reunion, from his class several years ago.
It has been so long, like 6/7 years from now. He could clearly remember how everything looked like. The endless halls, the cheerful students filling them and the strict, but tolerant teachers who made them ready for their future. To take their places in the real world.
He remembered the good and the bad times, the pranks he and his friends used to pull on their teachers. Cackling and snorting they had been hiding in the boys’ restroom and made plans for a next time. Typical high school mentality.
But it was the past. The present was much more complicated than he liked but he could cope with it, in the end everything fell on it’s place and he made a living on his own.
He was curious what would happen if he’d enter the school auditorium. Of course he was going to see old friends, classmates and teachers, but he was anticipating for two particular persons.
The best friends who he lost contact with.
He was nearing the front gate of the immense school building when a silver Mercedes stopped at the side of the road. As he got closer and closer he had a good view of the man who was climbing out of the driver’s seat, an umbrella above his head as he slammed the car door shut. Their eyes met and with a spark of shock he suddenly recognized the man’s face. “Yoochun-ah..”
The man looked as surprised as him. “Jaejoong Hyung…” The two of them were standing face to face, a few minutes passed as they noticed how much they had changed in those years. “I already expect to see you here.”
“Likewise.” Jaejoong said with a edge of disgust in his voice. “But for you to come in a Mercedes.. It looks like you’re doing all well..”
Yoochun nodded. “Business’ flowing all smoothly. It surprises me the same luck wasn’t in store for you.”
Jaejoong psh’ed and turned around to the gate. “It doesn’t matter, I’m not so fond of the expensive gifts… Other than you I like working for my money.”
“Don’t be like that, don’t just pick on me because I’m successful.”
“So you think I’m jealous of you?”
“What if I do?”
That’s when Jaejoong’s anger finally reached the surface. “I knew it! I knew you wouldn’t have changed a bit! You’re still the jackass I remembered!”
“And you’re still the one accusing me of things I’m not.”
“I already regret coming to this stupid reunion and it hasn’t even started yet, aish!”
Yoochun rolled his eyes and made his way to the gate. “I promised myself I’m not going to let you spoil my night, so just stay away from me.” The sound of his footsteps were parallel with the striking of the big church clock. 9 pm. Jaejoong watched him as he walked to the school entrance and mingle in the other classmates.
As he sighed, trying to compose his irritation, he followed Yoochun’s way and hoped it wouldn’t ruin his mood. Of course he knew there was a 100% chance he’d meet Yoochun there.
They hadn’t been just classmates…. They used to be best friends.

The auditorium was packed with former students and teachers. Everybody was busy talking to their long lost friends, reliving memories of their school year while enjoying the needed liquor that the school served for this special event. The sound of the rain got muted by the numerous murmurs and the background music.
Jaejoong zipped from his martini and gazed around the room. How could they all be so happy to see each other after such a long time? They’d all moved on with their lives, probably without having a single thought about classmates. So this whole event wasn’t interesting for him.
Why he still came was a complicated things, a event that had changed the rest of his life. Someone who made it harder to breath and made his heart beat faster with only his smile.
Where could he be, if he could even make it here?
“Jaejoong Hyung!~” A familiar voice shouted, almost causing Jaejoong to choke on the alcohol. A few pats on his back brought him back to normal and the man shook his hand. “How’ve you been?”
Although the voice sounded familiar in his ears he couldn’t recognize the face. Dumbfounded he stared up at the tall, handsome man who shook his hand eagerly. “I.. I’ve been alright..”
“What?! Don’t say you don’t remember me?!” The man rambled at him, ruffling through his blond hair. “You don’t remember your dongsaeng, that’s really a shame, Jaejoong hyung!”
“I’m really sorry..”
He sighed and brought the smile back on his face. “Once I set MinHo-seongsaengnim’s trousers on fire.”
“Ah! Shim Changmin!”
“Finally~ Man, you’re haven’t changed a bit, Jaejoong Hyung.” Changmin chuckled as he huggled the elder tightly. “I’m so glad to see you here!”
Jaejoong couldn’t agree with him more, even though Changmin was a few years younger than him the guy managed to skip 3 classes and still be the number 1 in every subject he took. Shim Changmin had always been a good friend of him, they had some great times.
There were so many things he wanted to tell him about, but as soon as he saw Yoochun standing only a small distance away from him he frowned, Changmin immediately got curious and turned around to see what was bugging his Hyung. “Ah, Yoochun Hyung is here, too! I heard he received the position of head-manager in his father’s company.. Uwah He looks so suave!”
Jaejoong huffed as if he heard a phony joke. “He’s not that great at all, just a jackass with luck.”
“Aish, Jaejoong hyung! Yoochun isn’t a bad guy!”
“How do you know?!”
That caught Changmin off guard, bringing him back to death silent. Jaejoong didn’t care, everybody knew how he thought about Yoochun. Even the man himself knew, cuz if he didn’t know he’d be delighted to rub it right into his face again.
“By the way, Jaejoong Hyung.” Changmin took a drink from the bar and suddenly faced Jaejoong with a serious expression. “Did you hear about Junsu-yah?”
Junsu.
Jaejoong bit on his lip. “Did something happen to him?”
Then, Changmin bend closer. “Well, it’s just something I heard… but still..”
“Changmin-ah, are you going to tell me?”
“Oh! Yes, well.. What I heard was that Junsu was taken to the hospital a few days ago.”
Jaejoong’s eyes widened in shock. He couldn’t believe what he just heard. It could have been just a rumor, but he knew better. Oh he knew it very well. “.. Who told you this?”
“Heechul Hyung told me, he’s the mastermind behind the whole reunion.. I wanted to see the list of attendance and when I couldn’t find Junsu’s name I asked.” Changmin explained, sometimes pausing for a zip. “Heechul Hyung said they called this morning he wouldn’t be able to come.”
“Do you know why? Changmin-ah, if you know tell me…” Slowly Jaejoong started to panic. This was unlike Junsu, the guy who’d always come no matter how he felt…
But unfortunately Changmin didn’t know. That’s what made Jaejoong worry even more. Then, their attention got caught by Kim Heechul, the Mr. Popular of their year. As always the guy made all the girls faint by only smiling at them, and once again it did the trick.
“Ladies and gentlemen, class of 2002.” Heechul spread his arms out to the crowd. “I welcome you all on this wonderful night, I’m delighted of the number of old classmates who could make it safely to our reunion.”
The crowd applauded happily as Heechul paused his speech.
“I hope you’ll all enjoy this evening and make time to say high to old friends and get back the memories of 4 wonderful years! But unfortunately we also have some bad news for you tonight.” Heechul took a deep breath. “With the people who couldn’t make it tonight was Kim Junsu, formerly known as the soccer junk of our class and the one who was always there to help others.”
Jaejoong heart was beating rapidly as he was listening to Heechul’s speech. What was going on here?
“This morning I got a call from the hospital to tell Kim Junsu couldn’t attend to our reunion because of a personal reason, but I got to speak to Junsu and he told me the exact reason why he couldn’t make it, and he wanted you all to know about it… Our friend, Kim Junsu…”
Doesn’t have much time left.
